The manual states the fuel tank is 18.5 gallons. When I fill up my 22 3LT HTC Z51 my range is generally between 312 and 316 miles. When I run the fuel down to the point where only the small Orange segment is left, I get usually about 15 to 15.25 gallons when I fill the tank. Is there a three gallon reserve?

I’m just speculating here (educated guess), but the fuel range displayed seems to be based on a computer estimate of how the car was last driven/being driven at the time of refueling and adjusts that estimate up or down accordingly.
I tend not to pay that much attention to the range. An 18.5 gallon tank (the capacity of the two tanks, actually) is still an 18.5 gallon tank, so I only pay attention to how much fuel is left vs relying too much on a fungible estimated range the computer is displaying.

That makes sense and Lord knows I like the quick starts. I just find of figured that I'd fill it with 16-17 gallons at that point as opposed to 15 or 15 and change as that was what I did in my 2014 C7.

Similarly it's possible to ---- reset the trip when fill up----then use the fuel economy data from that, combined with the --estimated mileage remaining-- to figure out approximately how much fuel remains. .. doing this multiple times at checking the gauge it's possible to --over time---know about how the gauge reads---- also filling at different gauge readings and noting the gallons used, get a pretty good idea...
In general, across various brands, I believe.. (note it's a belief!) that the low fuel light comes on with about 50 miles worth of fuel AT the EPA estimated fuel economy, remaining., which would be about 2.5 gallons in the C8, or a 16 gallon fill.
Do these cars have the fuel pump in the gas tank ? I have been told that the fuel in the tank cools the fuel pumps. Best to refill tanks when they have 1/4 tank of gas remaining. Doing this keeps the elec. fuel pump covered in fuel, thus cooler, thus less likely to go bad. Right or Wrong ??

I've read this, and it makes sense, but I can't bring myself to stop for gas when I have a quarter of a tank remaining. Maybe fuel pumps are better than they used to be, but I've never had a problem with any of the fuel pumps in our cars. Nor do I know anyone who has had a fuel pump go bad in a car that isn't at least 10 or 15 years old.

I think the pump is cooled internally by the gas going thru it, not from being submerged.
Pumps in fuel storage tanks operate the same way.
