2 months old. 1 payment. And rear ended by a 16 year old on her phone. Not a good day. 😢
It felt a lot worse than the damage. She hit me hard enough to where I thought I’d get out and see a truck not a Hyundai Sonata. Lol Rear hatch won’t open but says it’s open. Panels are off.
Sad to see try to get some diminished value from insurance. Hope she's all fixed up and back on the road for you to enjoy again soon, like it never happened!
Damn. I am so tired of distracted drivers, I wish they would figure out how to disable the phone screen within 30” of the steering wheel…. Also hope there is a stiff penalty imposed on the young lady.

I’m worried with the diminished value claim there’s not going to be much precedence, especially with how the C8 values are now. So I’m going to get extremely lowballed if it was a scenario had I planned to sell soon. My other concern is maybe they offer something for diminished value that sounds great now, but since there’s not much to base it on, it’s actually horrible. I’m not a flipper by any means, but I also didn’t plan on keeping the car forever. Either way it sucks. Especially waiting so long to get out of the military and back to making civilian pay to afford it, and then waiting for the whole build process, and now I’m sure it’ll be months before I get to drive it again
Very sorry to red your post. It looks like Texas is not a diminished value state, at least from a brief Google search:
Do insurance companies have to pay diminished value in Texas?
The position of the Department is that an insurer is not obligated to pay a first party claimant for diminished value when an automobile is completely repaired to its pre-damage condition. The language of the insurance policy does not require payment for, or refer to, diminished value.
On the other hand, though clearly heartbreaking, the damage is modest and repairable. Hope your ride is back on the street sooner rather than later. Thank you for your service!
Feel bad for you. It may be totaled so you can start over with a new one. The cost of a loaner, parts availability, hidden damages, labor shortages and salvage value may tip the scales in that direction.
From personal experience, neck and back pain usually hits 24 hours afterwards. Then you may need a personsl injury attorney.

I’m hoping it’s totaled at this point I think. I keep going back and forth on how I feel about that. But atleast if it’s totaled I can get out from any headaches and hassles in the future that it could have, especially when I decide to sell it.

If that was done they would have to remove the screen from the Corvette. Law of unintended consequences.

Your car is not anywhere near being totalled. It will be fixed and after a while the "cooties" will wear off and you will forget about the accident. Ask me how I know...

@PuffC8 I see you are in Houston. There is a diminished value expert here that my attorney used to calculate diminished value when a drunk driver hit our new Jeep. If you want, you can PM me and I will get his info. Sorry this happened but, as we know, it's just a matter of time in this town. This is why my daily driver is a 2012 truck.

Not a help for the OP but perhaps for a Thread viewer. To maintain my 63 year driving record of not having an accident with another car (and continued Luck) my MO when approaching a stop, particularly a Red light pisses off folks but sobeit!
First, I have my iPhone set to NOT receive calls or all the foolish Text Beeps when moving! Spend all my time watching for distracted drivers, best I can.
As I approach a red light I start slowing well before I stop. If someone is coming up I crawl so they must crawl with me! I know it pisses some off! BUT in SC you are actually allowed to text IF you are stopped. Can see folks phone on steering wheel who just can't wait to come to a stop. Really stupid as they continue thumbs going a mile a minute when the light turns green. Perhaps my MO may be useful for others!
PS: Remined of the "dumb blonde joke." It sure fits some folks with cell phones. Blonde went to the doctor's for a check-up.
Dr. said take off your cloths, person did, all but their head phones.
Dr. said please take those off.
Person refused and said I can't.
Dr. got mad and pulled them off.
Person fell on the ground dead!
Dr. picked up the head phones and listened. He heard the message, Breath in, Breath out! Note for Woke folks, I said person no gender or lack of one mentioned!

Did you have similar damage? Was your rear hatch stuck closed but saying open? I’m just worried there’s more to it than meets the eye since I can’t open the hatch and look further

Yeah I don’t daily the C8. And it’s still getting hammered from all the construction/road debris and **** drivers. My brother was having an open house in my neighborhood and wanted to check out the car since he hadn’t had a chance to ride along yet, didn’t even make it out of the neighborhood. I understand accidents happen, but this was just straight not paying attention. I was stopped at the stop sign waiting for the feeder traffic to clear for a good 10-20 seconds. Seems like she coasted right into me. I’ll PM you.
I would like to see insurance companies not cover the the damage to the car that has been texting when they rear end someone. They would cover the car they hit but not their own car.
