Default 1LT Inside rear view mirror camera

I am looking for information on what it may take to install the passenger compartment mirror with the camera. As GM felt it necessary to not allow it as an option unless you spent the $7400 cost for a 2LT .

Set the mirrors properly and you don’t need it. I agree it would be a nice to have option without the up charge, but it’s really not necessary.

It’s not a faint of heart solution, but a few people have improvised. See -

After taking a long road trip with it, I wouldn't bother. It is not life changing... its kind of cool in some ways, but also kind of annoying in other ways. First off, if you wear progressive lens glasses, it's almost worthless. Very hard to change focus from the road to the mirror. Even if you don't wear them, the perspective is weird. It feels like cars driving next to you are flying up on you, its more distracting than helpful. I will likely never use it, but my wife thinks its cool.

I have to agree, the camera RVM is more of a hassle than a boon. I wear progressive lenses and I have the exact problem mnm4 lists. Besides, if you have the HTC, you lose that when the top is down.
But I will say, that is not the reason I ordered the 2LT interior. Many great options in that package.

Of course you should do whatever you want, but I have a new 2023 with the 3LT package, and after using the rear-view camera for a while I decided that I like using the regular glass rear-view mirror better. If you set all the side mirrors CORRECTLY you'll find that the car has good all-around vision just like any other. I'm now used to the standard mirror and would never spend the money on the high tech camera stuff.
Just saying...

My 1LT has the rear mirror camera. I've driven alot with the top up in the rain and it hasn't bothered me at'll. If you set your side mirrors you should be fine. I do use the rear camera alot when the top is up but thats me.

Not gonna lie, the rear view mirror camera is one of my favorite feature in the car. It's so clear and the view is great. It's so good you can see the facial expressions from the car behind you.

this may be true but with my glasses I can’t see anyones facial expressions! 🙂

One funny thing about the mirror camera… I constantly find myself leaning over to look in the mirror, expecting to see myself. But of course it isn’t a mirror so that is not what I see. Funny the things we get used to doing.

Hmm, guess if you don't have one you won't understand the TV mirror is the best thing since sliced bread!

The C8 is as bad a center "real mirror view" as my two C7 coupes. Having 63 year driving record of no accidents with another car I attribute that to knowing where all cars are around me all the time. Particularly what the 1990's SAE tech paper on defensive driving stated: "It's not the cars on your rear bumper that are only important it's the ones traveling fast in the lanes next to you who will soon be there." Need a clear wide view of the rear! Don't have that with the C8 "real mirror."

Been wearing progressive glasses for 35 years. At first had difficulty with the TV Mirror. Then tilted it as if I was looking at myself (with the real mirror) and it cleared up perfectly. Eliminates glare from the rear as well. Have mentioned this for 2 years and many posts have said that is a big help.

I have my TV Mirror set for a wide view (your setting choice.) Can see cars on my bumper and those coming up fast behind. It's set like the convex passenger side door mirror; cars are closer than they appear. BUT like the passenger door mirror get used to that. In fact, far better than the GM electronic "blind spot detection" of folks on your bumper. That is about useless!

For those with 1LT what I added to my 2014 C7 and 2017 Grand Sport is a help!! Never needed in my 1988, 1993 or 2008 coups because they had a good view to the rear. NOT the C7s and for sure the C8!

For 1LT owner's might add the small "blind spot" mirror after you "set your mirrors" correctly. This pic taken from the SAE Tech paper in 1990's tries to define cryptically (on the right side) what it took a page of text. You MUST have a wide view of the rear to track cars speeding up on either lane next to yours. TV Mirror provides great visibility.

I love it. After setting it properly to reduce glare, I have zero issues focusing. I wish my other cars had it also.

I have it in my 1LT HTC and don't use it at all. As others have said it is strange looking into the mirror when it is on and more annoying then helpful. I would find someone who has one and would let you at least look through it so you can see what we are talking about.

^^^
The issue with C8 Verts is the great TV center mirror is only available with the top up. If you don’t tilt the real mirror as if looking at yourself it is a bit different look. However if you tilt the mirror like a TV, which it is,and look perpendicular to the screen it’s great.

Understand that means when the top is down you have to adjust the mirror before flipping. Natural for meIF Ihad a Vert as whenever I drive the wife’s SUV do that when I get in the seat! But understand some won’t do it. Their choice!

BTW, a number of posts by HCC owners who say they do adjust mirror tilt top up and down!

I initially had issues focusing on the rearview mirror camera image, and glare, but also discovered how to angle it up to eliminate glare completely. Basically, when adjusted correctly (for me), I can't see myself or through the rear window when the camera image is turned off. For some reason, I don't have as much of an issue focusing on it anymore after that. I really appreciate the wider angle the rear camera view provides.
