I also live in Florida, my 2022 HTC has not had any serious issues in almost a year of ownership except for an intermittent false message stating that "the top is not secure". I do, however, think it may be a good idea to carry a tarp since it will provide inexpensive peace of mind.
Do you see any broken gear teeth or cracked gears? I once had a plastic gear on my Toyota Supra's windshield wiper mechanism crack from the center all the way out to the edge. It caused the gap between the next tooth to open up; every time the gear rotated around to that spot the gears wouldn't mesh properly and the wipers would stop. Always at the same spot.
I agree that venues such as these Forums can exaggerate a feel for the number of problems any vehicle displays.
However, that said, such forums can give an idea of the breadth of problems, which can be rather damning when it's all over the ballpark (not mainly faulty wheels or transmissions as repeatedly reported, with relevant lawsuits, for example as with C7s). And, perhaps more important yet are the reports of how problems are handled by GM, it's corporate parts department, and its dealers. One may only require a single personal issue needing replacement parts, which have instead been sequestered for production vehicles to become more than merely "discouraged."
OK-some strange stuff going on here. I went out and took a good look at the electrical connections, gears, fasteners, etc. Everything looked good. I wiggled the metal arms attached to the tonneau cover and there was a little slack in them, but nothing excessive. Then I thought that maybe I should try activating the top with the key as I wiggled the tonneau cover. Oddly enough the top slowly drifted down to the closed position. When I started the car there was a top not secure indication. I pushed the top control switch down in an attempt to complete the motion and got the indication that the motion was complete. Wow...
I was torn whether I should try putting the top up. There was always the possibility that I could wind up right back to where I started with the tonneau cover stuck in the upright position. I decided to give it a shot. THE TOP WENT UP AS IF EVERYTHING IS OK!!! The remote start works again too.
All I can think is that opening the top while going up the curb onto my driveway might have briefly caused one of the sensors to be momentarily misaligned while the cover was fully open. I will still take the car to the dealership on Tuesday to see if there is any information stored which would give a clue as to what caused this. Typically problems like this are more difficult to diagnose when everything is working as it should. Going forward I will definitely avoid raising and lowering the top while going up or down the curb into my driveway.
I'm glad yours got figured out. Mine hasn't. As you saw on the previous thread, GM customer service chimed in . I sent my information along with all of the problems I am having (rear camera not working, convertible top mechanism not functioning)., They created a case number, and a master tech will be meeting me at my dealership on Tuesday when I drop the car off.
They have medication for people who get discouraged and depressed easily. Talk to your doctor.
I am not a doctor but a construction guy… I think the depression/anxiety is situational. Having that top mechanism fail mid cycle scares me. I wish there was some manual procedure to secure the top if the mechanism fails.
I have anxiety over watching my headlights peel paint and being told that it will take a month to even look at it by the dealer. Plus my headlights won’t shut off…Plus they are not good on a dark road.
On a 200 mile trip to the ocean my screen went completely black for about 40 miles. The car kept running but it caused me anxiety.
All the check engine light stuff also worry’s me.
As a gear head type person the feeling of not being able to fix anything myself or even see mechanically what is going on can be worrisome. I know hi tech stuff but I don’t have anxiety over my apple phone or my Toyota….

Wow you may need lots of meds. Maybe you need to talk to a staff of doctors including specialist.
I’m also a construction guy and retired. Not one thing you mentioned stresses me out. My screen went black once and after stopping and restarting it has been fine ever since. I didn’t even mention it to my dealer because these screens are computers and sometimes a reboot is all that’s needed.
None of this stuff should cause any real anxiety because it’s only a car. There are far more life changing issues that make mechanical failures seem insignificant. When you find out your wife of 40 years has breast cancer it gives a whole new meaning for anxiety. It makes everything else seem irrelevant.

I back into my driveway and as I'm entering my HTC gets rocked a little from side to side. Your vehicle should not be freaking just because you're going in or out of your driveway.

I agree the car should not freak out if the top is put up while rolling into the driveway. Are you operating the top while you are backing in? I guess you know what to do now if your top gets stuck in the upright position as mine did.
I took my car to the dealership today, but before I took it in I had to top stop in the full upright position two more times. Both times I rattled the top and both sides of the car in operation resumed. It seemed that this should be easy enough to troubleshoot, but the dealership technician was unable to diagnose the the problem and indicated that a specialist would need to be called in. I asked if I could take the car home and bring it back when the specialist was scheduled to arrive, but the service advisor said the car had to be in their possession to make the appointment. Sounded a little fishy, but not having a lot of choices I reluctantly left the car there.
Lessons to be learned
1. If your top ever stops in the full upright position like mind did, try rattling the top on both sides the car and then try to operate it using the control switch in both directions if necessary. Knowing this may keep you from being stranded someplace with your top stuck open.
2. If while raising or lowering the top motion stops even though you still have your finger on the switch, do not dismiss this as a glitch common to all C8 convertibles. This is the mistake I made. I had the top operation motion interrupted a few times when I knew I had my finger on the switch, but I assumed it was a glitch and nothing to be concerned about. Now I consider those events to be precursors to the larger problem I have with a top stop being stuck in the full upright position. If you have had similar occurrences, you might want to discuss it with your service advisor.
Update on my convertible top mechanism no longer working. It appears Onstar found code B19E8. Car is at dealership, GM has started a ticket for escalation. Will update as I get more information
As I was pulling into my driveway and putting my top up the tonneau cover opened and I received the “service convertible top” message. Now the tonneau cover is in the full upright position and will not close. I tried disconnecting the battery and re-indexed the side wide windows. The “service convertible top” message is no longer displayed, but the top does nothing. Same thing for the rear window. Nothing.
Since purchasing this car I have always been concerned about reliability. After the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty is up problems like this could be very expensive to fix. I'll need to look into extending the warranty.
Since the tonneau cover is fully upright I cannot drive the car to the dealership. If I have a tow truck driver come it would not be any different if they are driving my car on the back of their flat bed truck with the top fully open. I am waiting for the dealer to call me back. I think I will drive the car to the dealer (~5 miles) early in the morning, unless the dealer or someone here on the forum has a better idea.
Car is a 2022 with 1200 miles.

Dealership reported there was a chaffed wire underneath one of the folding top motors causing an intermittent short. They replaced the wire and it fixed the problem. (Fingers crossed!)

Yes, many times I'm raising my top. Granted, I've double-checked that my top does not reach the garage door, so it shouldn't hit it either but back to the point, my top has been operated just fine while backing into my garage. You might have something loose and the movement was enough to affect it. Just a guess.
