I’ve had the top-level interior for my C6 (4LT), top interior for my C7 (3LT), and top interior for my C8 (3LT). None of these had a delamination issue. Not sure why some people experience delamination and some people (like me) never experience it. I live in the Northeast where even in the summer it rarely hits triple-digit temperatures. Maybe it’s an excessive heat-related issue? It would be interesting to see if the majority of these issues occur in the South…

Back on topics, yes OP, that is normal.

From my experience on C8 and related threads, it’s caused by not enough adhesive on the leather. My guess is 3LT comes from a different supplier who maybe 10% of the time doesn’t put enough adhesive down where they’re supposed to. It has no correlation with heat, material, leather cleaners or anything, just luck of the draw.

We’ve all bought into a brand new, clean sheet, radical new design with very little production numbers or history to establish a long term sense of reliability with well documented DCT problems to boot. I call hard BS and on the dash board being where we draw the line on risk.

If initial cost isn’t a problem and the cost and hassle of out of warranty repairs is, then an extended factory warranty is a no brainer. It well worth it for all the other issues that might creep up on this car as it ages. This forum only documents the easy stuff that popped up within the first couple years/first few thousand miles. Simply getting a 2LT doesn’t get you out of the woods.
I plan on owning mine a LOT longer than even an extended factory warranty would cover. Fully intend on keeping my C8 until I die or it does.

So no, I wouldnt have been "unintentionally" lying, telling myself it wasnt about $$, then sharing on the internet. My choice would have been specifically and strictly on the basis of not wanting the potential hassle down the road.

I've even considered selling my C8 while I can still probably break even on it and ordering a 2LT to replace it, for this and only this issue. But then I'd have the PITA hassle of retrofitting a rear trunk release lock cylinder behind the plate. I risked the inconvenience of 3LT delamination to save myself the hassle of replacing the airbag cover. Cost was precisely zero part of the equation.

Once again, you arent the arbiter of others' thought process. Maybe for you it all only boils down to what you like within your budget. For some of us that isnt even part of the equation when it comes to the 2LT vs 3LT choice.

Got me there. Your specific thought process is unintuitive and makes no logical sense.

Firstly, let’s try not to snipe at each other over the delamination issue with the 3LT dashboard. It is a case of the spotlight fallacy at work (which is why the subject becomes contentious). The problem is not as large or widespread as it might seem.

Secondly, if someone bought a 2LT to avoid the issue, that’s their business and I understand why they made the decision. My last Corvette and my current Corvette are both 3LT and I never had the problem. I wanted the more plush interior/look and made that call based upon my personal experience.

Lastly, this thread is not a debate about the delamination issue since the OP is not reporting a delamination problem.
