Default C8 Remote Start

Is a subscription to Onstar required for the key fob remote function to work? I tried to use it the other day and couldn’t make it start. Went to the manual and I believe I followed the instructions, but can’t make it work. Suggestions please?

This is a great source of info for the new kid. Thanks in advance!

Weird, all I do is press the start icon 2x.

I never lock the door first.

No Onstar required. Make sure the trunk and frunk and doors are closed when using remote start?

Also the system will not work if there is a check engine light.

Did you press the lock button first, then the start button twice? If the car was already locked, it should have started on the second press of the start button. Otherwise, you probably should have a dealer look at it

The procedure should be outlined in your owner’s manual. I do believe you have to press the lock button on the fob first then the remote start button twice.

Just checked this. On my 2021 I can just push the start button twice. Mine does not have to be locked. But you can lock it first if that is what you want. There is a list items that will prevent the remote start from working.

I never press the lock button first, and the car is unlocked if it's in my garage.

I already mentioned it once but I will mention it again as it seems to be unclear.

I never lock my car, never.

I press the start button 2x and it starts right up.

I do it all the time.

No need for it to be locked, no need to press lock first.

Just 2x on the start button

There's an item missing: Both doors need to be securely closed.

My wife borrowed my Corvette to cruise the beach with her sister. I got my car back, but didn't know the passenger side door was not fully closed and remote start wouldn't work. Went over the list above and she still would not remote start. Took her to the dealer and the service manager opened and closed the frunk, trunk and both doors. The remote started her right up. I felt dumb...

That's nice but it's not germane to the issue the OP has remote starting his car. As others have stated the car will start if the button is pressed twice while the car is locked.

OR UNLOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!

Have I not written in simple to understand words?

I have clearly written not once but twice that the car will start unlocked, why the hell are you saying otherwise?

I do not lock my car ever, and I remote start it everyday that I drive it.

^^^ I agree - mine is a 2022 HTC - I don't lock it and the remote start works just fine. Make sure the other conditions are met (see @Andybump post #13)
