Auctions in general aren't a very good barometer for automotive "retail" values.

The cars didn't do as well with Mecum which probably represents a more cost considerate buyer. Barrett-Jackson bidders don't seem to care about the prices as much as I don't believe the cars are any better than Mecum's cars.

People spend stupid amounts of cash at BJ auctions. Other auctions seem to have more realistic prices for the cars.

The 23 in "the wrapper" had pictures of the car with the materials removed...they put it back on for the auction.

What was so special that caused the last two Corvettes to bring $165,000?

I was at barrett. Nothing like it. Incredible money being put out.
Here’s an example….they were marketing trips to outer space for a cool $1.1m. Jeff is smiling.

Barrett/Jackson bidders are not based in reality $150,000 + the buyers fee for a C8 base model?

BJ is great entertainment but not an indicator of market value IMO. 70 Chevelle SS's with the LS6 in the $500,000 range. Crazy.

Not to criticize but but to correct you. Barrett-Jackson will not take cash any longer.

I was there also. Amazing time but definitely overpriced in every sense. Pontiac Superbird went for over half a million and those stupid Isetta 300's went around ~$98k?!?!?

So many replies calling it correctly here. Barrett Jackson is NOT the place to validate market values. This is crazy, EGO, drunken, TV Cameras money that the average person just doesn't know and couldn't relate.
I was there Thursday and have been going every year since 2007. On Thursday, the two top sellers were:
A 69 GTO Judge - $275,000 (really?)
A 1961 Lincoln Continental - $261,000 (seriously?)
If you gave a couple of 10 year olds a $million each in play money, the results above are about what you'd expect to see.
This is stupid money at its best.
