If you're a 'car guy' with loads of money and not a lot of time, you go to B-J's auctions and you will find exactly what you want. If someone else there likes it as much as you, the race is on.... I don't have any problem at all with the process or the results....
Unfortunately for me, Mecum is rapidly attracting the same audience.
I am the caretaker of a 70 car collection here in Fort Worth. The owner took his original Eleanor that was built for and used in Gone in Sixty Seconds movie. It brought $440,000 of Friday evening.

That's a great looking car! Cars that were in actual movies, often being one of a kind usually bring big money though.

Yes, I saw that car staged inside when I attended Thursday. It's a beauty.
From the looks of this car, you are obviously good at your job.

Sometimes the "stupid money" isn't THAT stupid and goes to good causes. This is the late Gen Colin Powell's C7 Vette, auctioned off for charity. Commanded $200,000.00
I have been about five times. Prices are certainly not indicative, anyone the would endure 18% of friction (10% seller’s commission and 8% buyer’s premium) is simply not financially responsible. Also no reserve. Getting solicited twice by prostitutes, what a classy place.
Bring a Trailer has really brought a better auction model, with less friction, comments during the auction that in most cases improve transparency and product knowledge, and not the “heh, batter-batter” auctioneer drone at Barrett Jackson (and Mecum).

I agree with you on BAT. I'm on it almost daily. For one thing, just the commentary is worth it as there is always someone commenting about the weaknesses of a given brand, flaws they see in pics, etc. Much cleaner of an auction site than BJ or Mecum, or others like them and fairly reasonable bidding wars...at least not the insanely extreme.
