Hello guys. I just received my new Z button. I already took the airbag off and tried prying the z button but it doesn’t seem to come off. I don’t want to apply too much force since I fear I might break the internal socket. My question is , is there any specific technique or method used of pry it off safely? Any responses would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

^^^ I would be interested in the answer to this also. I have a blue Z-Mode button that I haven't installed yet. Is it really as easy as the video shows or are there any tricks or gotchas to be aware of?

The purpose for disconnecting the battery is to prevent the airbag from accidentally going off. If you are removing the air bag and not disconnecting the battery you are looking for trouble.

Z Button Cover

I agree they should offer more colors other than red or blue...
Very nice and goes with your interior color scheme quite nicely
I would consider it myself, but I have a natural dipped interior and a red or blue Z-button cover would look very out of place in my car.

If that is the reason, here is what the Service Manual says about disabling the SIR system via battery disconnection:
Disabling Procedure - Negative Battery Cable
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Vehicle OFF.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
4. Wait 2 minutes before working on system.

I just need help prying off the original button. Is there any specific method or technique with our damaging the internal sockets ? Or should I just use pressure until it comes off ? Can anyone talk from experience ?

Here is a pic of the underside...It's held in 3 places...

I suggest watching the video again to see how they pull up and release the button keeping these 3 places in mind...I found using trim tools and angled pick tools worked well...
