Default Updates ??

I just saw that a new update has come out, so I checked my car. There is no update and I do not remember EVER getting an update on my January 2022 C8.
Can someone help me to resolve this issue?
Thanks!

Not every update is for every car. One update may only affect older cars, and already been built-in to newer ones. Or one may only be for the 2023 software and not get sent to older cars. Or it may be related to an option that your car doesn't have (such as FEL, or MSRC). Aside from that, updates aren't sent to every car at the same time, to prevent overloading the update servers, so even if your car is due that update it may come weeks (or even months) later than other cars.

But, GM's OTA process seems screwed up anyway. My car's never gotten the update to warn that your phone is in the charger, which supposedly was for all C8s.

Same. 7/1/21 build and I've only received one OTA update.

12/10/23 build and I've received 2 OTA updates so far...The first update was to allow for future OTA updates...

I would check your update history to see if you ever received the first permission upate...

First Update: Permissions for future updates...If you declined this then you won't receive future updates...

Same here. I just did another update last week, still no charger warning for me (built late June 2021).

3/14/23 build date and I get "your vehicle is up to date", also no updates in history. It would be interesting to know why some need the update and some don't or maybe don't make every car available for an update at the same time?

They are probably waiting for your car to be built before updating it

Yeah that would make sense, lol. Sorry, it was built on 3/14.

Wireless charging is provided with trim level 2LT and 3LT but not 1LT. So, not all C8's would require the "phone left in the charger" update.

I also think you have to have wifi turned on to receive updates. To my knowledge my 21 has never received an update and it works just fine.

The updates are downloaded via the onstar connection (Subscription is not necessary for the updates). Wi-Fi is not needed for the updates.

So the updates happen whether you allow them to or not? I've never received any message about installed updates like everyone else has remarked about. If they are automatically sent then why do they send a message out about accepting that update to receive new updates in the future?

The updates are never installed without a message requesting your authorization. There is an option in settings to automatically download them. It isn't clear to me if you will ever get a message to install an update if that option isn't selected.

From my own experience, which isn’t a lot because I have only received 2 updates for my 2022 HTC (January 2022 delivery), I did receive a notification that the updates were available for download and install, and I do not have the option selected to automatically download. The entire OTA process seems to be somewhat inconsistent so my experience may not be the same for everybody or every car out there. As they say, YMMV.

Did you get a separate message to accept the installation after it was downloaded? This link suggests you should:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...formation.html
And that makes sense. If the download wasn't able to complete you wouldn't want the car to be disabled during an update if you then drove it to the gas station or something and it decided to perform the update.

Perhaps this is why some people believe they need to be connected to cell/wi-fi to perform the installation when in reality they are accepting the download. However once downloaded that shouldn't be necessary to perform the installation.

I referred to your above link, and yes, that’s exactly (as I can recall) the message that I received, after I had downloaded the OTA update and prior to installing.. I believe you are correct in what you stated in your last sentence, and that would explain the confusion that exists on the necessity for when and how the cell/wi-fi is used.

My vehicle is not getting better and better. The last time it sat for a year and would not update. I had it into the dealer and they confirmed it was a year behind on updates. So they re-flashed everything.
This bumped the build numbers significantly.
Took it home and there was one of those updates that came down that said if you DON'T install the updated, you would lose all future updates. I installed it. It said it installed fine.
Since then, NO UPDATES.
Maybe they are slow rolling updates out and my VIN# just puts me at the very very end of the line? This would be typical for me, I always seem to get the short end of the stick.

Apparently I never turned that feature on because as typical I didn't read the manual cover to cover and they didn't cover that at the museum delivery process. Bottom line is I don't know what I'm missing and my car has performed without issue from day one. Bonus. I'm extremely happy with the car as is.
