About a month ago, I got in the Vette and the rear view mirror camera picture started flickering on and off. Nothing that I did would restore it so I made an appointment with my local Chevy dealer that I had been dealing with for the past 10 years; Sunset Chevrolet in Sarasota. The appointment was today because of my travels and availability. I took it in this morning fully expecting them to examine the system, determine the failed part and order it and then I would go home and wait for another appointment after the part arrived. After waiting about an hour, the service writer came to the waiting room and told me I was ready to go. I asked about the installation appointment and he said, had the part, the camera had failed, and it was all fixed. No hits, no runs, no errors.
So for all the horror stories about bad dealers, I can tell a good story. The Service department at Sunset Chevrolet is outstanding and my SW, Pat Sweetnich is second to none. Oh yeah, their Certified Vette Tech is really good too!
That IS impressive! I just wonder why they had one in their parts dept.---can only think that this has happened before and t hey bought two, and kept one just in case. Lucky for you!!!!!

A lot of dealer will start stocking parts if they see 3 or more sold within a short time frame (usually 90 days). Could be the case here or it could be the camera is the same part number on another GM product that they see on a more often basis (probably unlikely since I imagine the camera is specific to the C8)

Very interesting because my rear view mirror camera occasionally will flicker but comes right back on. I noticed that it seems to do it on a sunny day and I drive under a road sign or a bridge. Is seems to me the camera is adjusting to the rapid change in the light intensity. But I don't know if this is common or if it's a problem. It doesn't do it often but every once in a while and maybe it's normal. I recall some people on this forum mentioning this and said it was normal. But when I take it in for it's oil change I'll mention it . Thanks for posting.
Because my camera mirror image has been "foggy" I looked into how to replace it. The engine vent covers are what retains the camera housing. 5 or 6 screws on each side and the cover comes right up. There is a snap connector for the mirror wiring. Unclip, unsnap and out it comes. It looked like about an hour job to me, and I'm not much of a mechanic. ...IIRC a new camera can be had for under $150 (full GM price).
Since I had a carport built and the car doesn't sit out in the rain ALL THE TIME, the moisture in the camera seems to have evaporated and I don't think I need to replace it now.

I bought my new 2013 Yukon Denali from Sunset GMC in Sarasota and have nothing but great things to say about the transaction with them. They went that extra mile to make my purchase a memorable one.
