Wondering if anyone gets second thoughts while waiting for their C8? ...
There are always second thoughts, specially during long waits. We, whether having one or waiting for one, likely have thoughts we are playing russian roulette.
At the same time, we are hoping that the one we get is one of the majorities that are problem free.
No, nope, nada, nein, not a single second thought. Waited 17 months for her and when my dealer called to say my car was on it's way, it literally was 1 of the greatest feeling I've ever had...
I did kind of put it out of mind for a long time though because I knew it was going to be 9-12 months. I did a good job of not being too bothered about how long it was taking until the last month or so when I started booking tickets to Bowling Green and mapping my route out. At that point I started getting pretty excited. This is my first Vette, won't be my last and I won't have second thoughts next time either!!!
Wondering if anyone gets second thoughts while waiting for their C8? Sitting on lists for around a year, Dealer fees and gouging, GM model year price increases, and not to mention reading forums that indicate different problems and failures.
Any second thoughts will diminish as fast as lightening after receiving your C8.
Yes, I am very disappointed with Chevrolet’s ordering system, which would be charitable to call it that. There is no sense to the waits.
I ordered a 2020 right after the launch event. This was a dealer I had bought my 2019 from too. With Covid it took until October of 2020 to get it, all good.
My dealer at that time, was selling at MSRP for the C8. My son bought one too at MSRP too.
I get a new car every couple years. I went to get on a list in October of 2021, and no more MSRP there. Very disappointing. I shift to a dealer recommended here and I have been on their list since early November 2021. To date no allocation, although I was number ten on their list two months ago.
I played with high performance motorcycles on the street and the racetrack since 1979 and have ridden all over the US and in Germany. Gave up the track when I had my left hip replaced and decided to get a sports car. Started out with a beautiful 2018 Admiral Blue Grand Sport in November 21 and picked up this 2021 C8 in May 23. I love it and it is fun to drive and own. Corvette people are great to be around and enjoy the shows, cars and coffees, etc. Going to get its new wheels today and can't wait to drive it up to Carlisle in August.
My story is very similar to yours, been riding motorcycles since I was 11 or 12 years old. Have ridden all over both in the US and out of the US. Sport bikes for years and on a race track most weekends 8 months out of the year. Then last year I added one more injury to my list of failing body parts and decided to retire riding on track. Not so sure if my riding on the street is done as well.
Have been thinking about a new Corvette since the C8 came out, been going a little stir crazy lately, I really needed something to help with the adrenaline withdrawal, so I decided on getting a C8, I will it track it a few times a year, nothing serious, just an open trackday where I drive it there and do some mild hot laps. Do the cruise night thing once in awhile, but mostly just drive it anytime the weather is good, my goal is drive it, it will not be entered in car shows, I never buy anything just to look at.
The only second thought I have would be about what to do if I get an E-Ray allocation while my C8 is being built. After buying a C8 off the lot, I've actually enjoyed building and ordering the car exactly how I want
One thing for sure...........its a major purchase that IF you are disappointed even months from now........... you can dump it and get most if not all of your money back. Few cars offer that. Even C7 prices are stout.
Sometimes I have a bit of second thoughts on my Stingray...or thoughts I should have checked off less options. Or even just buy a Mazda MX-5 instead! Besides the money for the house downpayment, this is the most expensive purchase I have ever made in my life. Easily 3x more than my other past cars, and the C8 was paid fully in cash.
I sometimes think it was better to have put that money towards paying off the house much sooner. Currently I'm adding quite a bit to principal each month which is easy to do with no kids.
However, with THAT said, I am on the Z06 waiting list and definitely having second thoughts. By the time my name is called, I bet the price will creep up to over ~45-50k over my Stingray along with the expected depreciation. I think my Z51 Stingray is 90-95% as fun/usable as the Z06 for a LOT less money. I may pull my name off the waiting list...
My C8 is my 5th Corvette and it just occurred to me that it cost more than my first house - 40 years ago. I picked mine up in September 2021 and spent a lot of time in it without any issues. The only time I had second thoughts was last year in June when I got "long Covid' and as I recovered from that started having severe left knee issues along with back issues so the C8 sat in the garage. My knee got replaced last October and I told my therapist his goal was to get me back into my C8. That happened by December. My back has gotten to the point now where climbing in and out can be an issue on my bad days so I'm making plans to get the back "repaired" in either October or November. The C8 is sitting more now but I do love to go out and look at it when I can't drive it plus it's paid for so it can sit right where it is until I give my therapist another goal after back surgery.

I waited 13 months. No waffling. Just impatience. So much fun to drive. Every. Single. Day.
I waited 9 months for my SuperDuty and 6 months for my wife’s Explorer ST to be built during the Covid years. When I decided to get my C8, I was only going to do it if I could find one I liked on a dealer lot for MSRP. It took about a week of searching nationwide, but I found one in my home state at a very small dealer who agreed to MSRP. It had everything I would have ordered, plus about $10K of additional items that are very nice features. I have had it for 2 months and it has been fantastic. Much better to drive than my previous vettes, Viper and Shelby GT350, by far.
Before ordering and waiting 9-12 months, do a nationwide search and you might find exactly what you want.
