Default Second Thoughts?

Wondering if anyone gets second thoughts while waiting for their C8? Sitting on lists for around a year, Dealer fees and gouging, GM model year price increases, and not to mention reading forums that indicate different problems and failures.

I have having second thoughts for a couple years. This year in February I said screw it, I'm 67, been to many funerals, seen many in hospitals, and I put a deposit to get on a 2024 list. Many times I have thought it is foolish, I have a nice 2017 Grand Sport Convertible. I have some money, everything is paid for, but is there really enough savings? No really. A long stay in assisted-living or nursing home can take everything, so never enough. My wife says, get the C8, it's less for the nursing home and if nothing else, less for inheritance.

I was called on Tuesday that my order will be submitted on Thursday 6/27 if there are no constraints. I will probably have some buyers remorse, but will have many smiles to good rides with my wife. Going for rides and lunch are our favorite past-time.

We are excited that the new C8 could be here in Oct/Nov.
I think about the C8 all the time. I am looking at info on the internet several times a day, this forum included.
As for problems or failures, I will use the warranty and have a technically good dealership. If it is a lemon, trade it in.
Best wishes to all;
Ron

most expensive thing i have ever purchased aside from my home, and my first townhouse was only 50k more than this car...
that gave me a bit of pause, but i dont have kids. i have a good job, as of today anyway, and can always sell the thing if the world ends.

right before i was committed to the allocation and no backing out, i called my buddy who said "i spend ferarri money on my kids each month, enjoy the car"

bought it, love it

I went through that phase twice while waiting a year for my car to be ordered. I paid MSRP from Ciocca (Dane, good experience), but still it is a long time.

After 6 months I’m still happy with the car, and I’m now struggling with do I want an ERAY in 2 years or wait until the warranty on this one is running out.

So far I’m amazed at how good this car is.

C8 is my third Corvette (C6 & C7 previously). I hesitated ordering at first, because frankly I thought the C7 was a far better-looking car. It took a while for the European "Super Car" lines of the C8 to grow on me, as C8 aesthetics are (in my opinion) an "acquired taste". In time, I started seeing the ingenious sprinkling of prior generations in the body lines. Then, that amazing hard top convertible came out, and I was hooked. I now believe my C8 HTC to be nothing short of an exotic work of art.

The C8 is also the first car I ever paid full sticker price for and felt "lucky" to be doing so. My 2022 is now almost two years old, and I would not trade it for anything. It is the finest automobile I have ever been in (and I have travelled in some nice ones). Driving this car is a truly visceral experience. I just can't wait to get behind the wheel at every opportunity. BUY THE CAR. You won't regret it.

Been a "car person" since my early teens (now 79) and have had my C8 for a little over a month. If I had any second thoughts about buying this car they are completely forgotten. This is the car I only dreamed about owning. It is absolutely marvelous.

To the OP:
You wouldn't be human if you didn't have second thoughts on such a major purchase decision.

That said, you have to take what gets posted on internet forums with a grain of salt at times.

This site has 566,527 members. People tend to post up their problems or critiques about the car out of proportion to the number of problems the car has relative to the actual number of C8s on the road, so the points of view you read here are skewed in such a way to give you the impression that the C8 has a lot of problems.

Obviously, every car has its issues, and it is useful to the community as a whole when people post up their issues. If you encounter the same issue, you can read about what others did to resolve the problem or diagnose a cause. Many of our members are extremely knowledgeable about these cars, and over the years, this forum has been a tremendous resource for many people.

It's normal to have second thoughts about purchasing this car but don't let the problems people post about influence you too much.

Not once did I have a second thought about buying a C8... never sat in one, only saw one like mine then I bought one. Mine is 7 weeks old and I have 3,700 local miles of smiles on her. The wife and I just think of places to go all the time now. I've driven the C8 way more than I did my C5 and I loved driving the C5 it's a real drivers car.

While crap happens think about the number of cars produced and the number of complaints and do the math.

Dealing with MacMulkin, I didn't have any concerns about dealer fees or price gouging. I knew I'd pay MSRP and not a dime more. They even price protected me when there was a mid-year increase!

However, my C8 was three to four times more than I'd ever paid for a car, and I needed to consider that I'd been laid off from my tech job of almost 20 years. Being a little older, I was never able to get back into the tech field, so that left me without a good source of income. Nevertheless, I never had major doubts. Instead, I decided to reward myself for a lifetime of hard work, and I've never regretted it.

My C8 was my first Corvette, and it has become my most major "hobby" and a big source of enjoyment. So much so, that I'm getting another one, and with any luck maybe I can make a few bucks teaching people about it. If so, it'll be the first time in my life that I've actually enjoyed my "job" and would do it for free. Isn't that what they say everyone should strive for?

Well said. I'm 58, have been fascinated with corvettes since I first saw the C3 in one of my neighbors driveways walking to the bus stop when I was 8 years old. I've worked hard, made some good financial decisions and have no debt. It will be a secondary car (I still love my 2015 Toyota Tacoma) to go to the theater, out to dinner on the weekends, short trips to the beach. I plan on enjoying the hell out of this car. I do still feel a little funny about spending that much money on it, but, you only live once.

I'll be 70 this year and never thought once about spending some of my kids inheritance on another Corvette. I'm like you and worked my *** off and made good decisions though out my life time and have no debt. I built my house and garage with my own two hands and paid for the materials as I went and that was a huge kick in the savings department. The C3 was my favorite Corvette for years but I never had the cash to buy one...

Love this. Enjoy it!!! and Enjoy that your wife loves it too. That's not the case for all of us, although I know many of you have loving women that want nothing more than to cruise around in the vette... mine would rather walk than ride in the Vette. Regardless of how it's driven. It's not smooth, it's impractical, Glad you like it but cars are stupid. etc. . . .

Enjoy it Sir!!! Life is short.

No regrets. No second thoughts. I knew it would be a wait. For me at MM it was 9 1/2 months. My first color choice was discontinued, plant shutdowns, 2021 became a 2022.
At MM I paid MSRP. There was no price gouging or added fees for stuff I didn't need. They kept me informed at every step. Very pleased with MM.
I have had zero problems, i.e. transmission issues, system upgrades, dead battery...
Almost 12,000 awesome miles and smiles. Very happy.
Forums are great, but they almost always talk about the bad things, when there is so much good about this car.
Forget the negativity. Get the car and enjoy the heck out of it.

This will be no#7, after 2 ZO6’s and 2 ZR1’s I’m wondering should I do this. Not sure, 64 retired in AZ small mortgage payment and enough to buy the car cash.
I asked my sister that question “ what do you think” her answer “ you just gonna lleave everything for your son?
I said , sold, FI, it’s definately my last new car, and if I don’t like it, I’m really not gonna lose much, at this point I don’t care. Paying MSRP, right about 103k out the door……lol

I played with high performance motorcycles on the street and the racetrack since 1979 and have ridden all over the US and in Germany. Gave up the track when I had my left hip replaced and decided to get a sports car. Started out with a beautiful 2018 Admiral Blue Grand Sport in November 21 and picked up this 2021 C8 in May 23. I love it and it is fun to drive and own. Corvette people are great to be around and enjoy the shows, cars and coffees, etc. Going to get its new wheels today and can't wait to drive it up to Carlisle in August.

Nope..I never had a second thought while waiting on MacMulkin's waitlist for 9 months...I ordered exactly what I wanted and having owned previous Corvettes (C4, C5, and C7) I knew I'd love the new C8...Having owned my C8 for over 7 months now, I still have zero regrets and would order the C8 again with the exact same options...

Man you have almost summed up exactly what I have gone through except I am 63 yo. I have had mine for 8 weeks now and had a 2019 GS. I have seen the same, had all the same thoughts and yes said wtf. I figure if I ever need the $$$, I can get most all back from a Vette........I did with my other 4. I have lived by a couple sayings. "The only regrets we have are the risks we dont take" and "If you dont do it today, you will only be a year older when you do next year". I decided this could be my last Vette hoorah and went for it.....

Second thoughts all the time. Should I order this or that? Kinda wish I would have ordered a different color. Should I have ordered Z-51, mag ride, front lift. In the end your first thoughts were most likely the best. Drive it and enjoy it.

I jumped on a Hendricks list in 2021 and got pissed off a couple months later when I got notified I wouldnt make the dates to get a 21 model and would have to get a 2022 model. I jumped off the list. Ive been a car guy all my life (born in 63) and owned many muscle cars and 2 corvettes, but I couldnt get this new car out of my mind. Even after hearing about bad valve springs, blown motors, bad transmissions, and all host of bugs I didnt care. This car was a new breed of Corvette, a mid engine street and track weapon. I decided I had to have one for my 60th Bday (may 23) and got on macmulkins list, but in the next two weeks I found a car forsale at a dealer in florida and was able to buy it at MSRP. Regrets, no way, this car is amazing, the best corvette ever produced.
