Default keyless entry

anyone know this? i must have read the owner's manual 5 times by now and can't figure out how to use the keyless entry system to lock the car. I am not talking about using the FOB or the door lock to arm / lock the car. any idea? thanks

I have my car configured to lock the doors automatically when I leave the car. It takes 5-10 seconds and the horn beeps to tell me when it locks. I love it.

One problem, I did lock myself out of the car with the keyfob in the car one time. That's where the app saved my bacon. I pulled up my phone, went into the app and used the remote unlock and voila!

Passive door lock at the bottom of the screen from your screenshot, turn it on. With it turned on and the fob in your pocket, when you walk away the car will automatically lock.

thank you sir, what happen to you is why i don't want to enable this so i don't lock myself out. what i am after is the ability to use the keyless pad on the outside door to lock the car without using the FOB. i hope i am making sense as the owners manual stated there are 3 different ways to arm / lock the car but it doesn't tell you how to use the keyless access pad to lock it. thanks

You're asking for something that doesn't exist. Vettes have always been my DD since 1987. C8 is my 6th. Have had my 2 C7's and C8 (don't recall the C6 or 2 C4ss) automatically lock. Have not locked myself out in 12+ years. In fact, I never use my FOB. It's in my from paints pocket. No need to use to access Frunk or Truck. I just press those open buttons or the one in the driver's door.

The door switch you're wanting to use just releases the latch momentarily. You want it to lock the car. It does not know how!

I have auto lock on and if there is a key in the car when I exit I get a triple horn beep, not sure if it will go ahead and lock anyway but can test later.

hi jerry, my 6 Gen camaro has this feature that allows me to lock the car by touching the keyless pad and not have to use the FOB or door lock from the inside or setting up passively locking feature. since it was mention in our owners manual, i figure it is possible. thanks

Both the interior and exterior door switches do the same, ONLY release the locking latch. Some have issues particularly the interior until they get used to the sequence. They expect something more than it provides. It just releases the latch, much like the electric doors on my street rod. If you don't push the door open when you press the button (best simultaneously) it just relatches.

On page 25 of the 2023 Owners manual it says:
Remote Mirror Folding
If equipped with power folding mirrors and
the mirrors have not been folded with the
power folding mirror switch and the vehicle
is in P (Park), they may be automatically
folded/unfolded as follows:
1. If doors are locked by double pressing (lock symbol)
on the remote key, the mirrors may fold.
If doors are unlocked by double pressing
(unlock symbol) on the remote key, the mirrors may
unfold. See Remote Key Operation 0 7.
2. If doors are locked by pressing the door
handle button, the mirrors will fold.
If doors are unlocked by pressing the
driver door handle button, the mirrors
may unfold. See “Keyless Unlocking/
Locking from the Driver Door” in Remote
Key Operation 0 7.
So #2 says there is a door handle button? Maybe if auto locking is off the door button will lock the door?

my auto locking is off, the keyless entry / outside door handle doesn't lock / arm the door. it appears it will only unlock, if you look at the link below for the 6 Gen camaro, you will see a little button to lock / unlock / arm or disarm the door. thanks

That is referencing the lock button on the inside of the door, there is a lock and an unlock button next to the door release button on the inside of the door. I believe the OP wants to lock the door after exiting the vehicle, closing the door, and pressing the exterior door release button. That is not a function of that button though.

I'll have to look with a mirror as I only felt a single button, IIRC it was pretty wide so maybe it's two buttons under one cover? Always trying to learn more about the fantastic C8...

To lock or unlock the drivers door with the fob in your pocket, just touch the middle of rubber pad in the door quickly. If you hold it longer it will open.

The door button is a single wide button. A quick press to anywhere on the door button will unlock the doors. When unlocked another quick touch will not lock the doors. I tried front, middle and back of the button and it appears to be just one button. You "hear" the lock mechanics each time you press the button but if you look at the passenger side lock/unlock button you can see that the doors do not lock by pressing the door button.

On passive locking there is a check to make sure one or both keys have been removed from the car so locking with the key inside would be rare although if there is electronic interference it can happen since the vehicle must detect the remote key signal.

On my C6Z I had no problem locking the key in the car with the passive auto lock. The keys were in my golf bag. So far I have not done that on the C8Z to see if it would detect the key, I suspect not.
