As long as the torque is not too high there's no issue using one to install. But if you can't limit the torque to below the recommended amount I do agree.
Plus with a battery powered impact wrench you can spin them on slowly by limiting how far you pull the trigger so they don't cross thread. When going to the track I have been doing this for the last 25 years. When changing tires several times a day it is very time-consuming to start and tighten lug nuts by hand. I have a 900-inch-pound battery-powered impact wrench (75 ft lbs) that lets me start and lightly snug the nuts. Then I go around with the torque wrench and with no more than one turn I can torque the nuts to their 100 ft lb spec, If I am not lined up correctly on the stud when I slightly pull on the trigger I can feel the nut stop/resist turning and reverse the wrench and realign the tool. Sometimes, all it takes is a slight shake of the impact to let the nut start spinning. Over those 25 years, I haven't cross-threaded a nut or broken a stud because I tightened the nut too much.
Don’t laugh, I’m not a mechanic.
Can I change out the lug nuts on my C8 SR by leaving the car sit on my garage floor, remove one lug nut and then replace it with a new lug nut until I’ve replaced all of them? I would use a torque wrench when tightening.
I will rent one. I have an “inch pounds” one for my other hobby.
Well if you have to rent one I’m tempted tell you that you don’t really need one. You can just put them down tight and then re-torque them after 50-ish miles. It’s not the right way but anyone who’s taken lug nuts off after a shop has had the wheels off will agree that just about all “professionals” don’t bother with proper torque
I’m surprised you have torque wrench given your inexperience, I spent years without one when I was younger even though I knew better.
I spent decades without a torque wrench when I did not know any better and nor did it matter much in those days!! My calibrated arms never failed me. LOL

Yeah I didn’t know better for all of those younger years either but never had a wheel come off
