Default Changing lug nuts

Don’t laugh, I’m not a mechanic.
Can I change out the lug nuts on my C8 SR by leaving the car sit on my garage floor, remove one lug nut and then replace it with a new lug nut until I’ve replaced all of them? I would use a torque wrench when tightening.

I’m surprised you have torque wrench given your inexperience, I spent years without one when I was younger even though I knew better.

I will rent one. I have an “inch pounds” one for my other hobby.

Save yourself some time and buy a mid torque battery powered impact gun. Milwaukee has a nice variety. Get a set of impact sockets in typical wheel sizes.

You should never install lug nuts with an impact. Start them by hand and then torque to spec. You can use an impact to remove, but never to install.

As long as the torque is not too high there's no issue using one to install. But if you can't limit the torque to below the recommended amount I do agree.

Obviously, I didn't think that even needed saying. He knows that, it's why he's using a torque wrench.

For $10 @ amazon, you can get a 20 pc set of plastic lug nut covers in virtually any primary color. Press on snap fit. Easy to change out if the mood suits you. Make sure you get the correct C8 size.

If you care about how the lug nuts look, you won't use an impact at all. An impact works by hammering the nut in pulses. For my race car with Ti or steel lug nuts, I use an impact to remove and install the lug nuts. I do had thread them on for a few threads so I don't cross thread them. But this leaves marks on the flat sides of the lug nuts. Using a hand tool does not hammer the lug nuts as you are applying constant pressure to break them loose and to tighten them.

With plain old uncoated steel lug nuts I might not care about the impact damage. But, for black lug nuts, I will not be using an impact tool.

Your call....

If not yet stated, torque in increments... such as 50, 95, 140.
