No sir, no trap, I'm trying to learn what is means. Some say it's the date of completion and others say it's the date the VIN is assigned,

At least to me, it is the date the car is completely built and rolls off the assembly line. Others may have a different definition.

I also got my VIN more than a week before the car was built. I assume the build date was either the date it rolled off the line or the day it shipped but I don't know where I would check that. The warranty date shown on the Chevy website, which is probably the most "important" date corresponds with the day the car was delivered to me. OP - why do you ask?

The VIN is determined when the car is “broadcast”, or loaded into the production system and assigned a production sequence (the last several digits of the VIN), typically around a week or two prior to production.

The day that the car rolls off the line a window sticker and an invoice to the dealer are typically also created (unless the car is held for quality or some other issue). That day is what most of us refer to as the build date. If the car is incomplete for some reason, we would refer to the day it is completed and the sticker and invoice are created as the build date. I think the key is when it is invoiced and the window sticker are created, since that signals completion as far as the plant is concerned. That is usually the day it rolls off the line.

I'm trying to learn all I can since ordering a new one.,

Update: I have learned the build date is September 23, 2024. March 8 an email states my car is on a truck headed to the dealer.
I'm guessing delivery will be Monday, March 11.

When you get your build date, that is the Date the car is scheduled to be assembled (started, not completed). The date they give you is with the assumption Production stays on schedule from the time the date is set. Any downtime on the Line will shift your Build date by hrs / days etc. depending on any Production issues that happen each shift...

I am going with the date it rolls off the line, Mine was Aug. 29th 2023.
I know it can be in the start to finish process for more than a day but they do complete them every 8 minutes (or less)
You need to go to Bowling Green GM assembly plant and see them doing Gods work, it really is a great thing.
I stood there and saw it, they truly are Americas Team.

NOT the date a VIN is assigned. The VIN is assigned weeks before assembly. The car can’t be sequenced to the assembly line without a VIN. The VIN is assigned internally long before you or your dealer have any clue what it is.

That is the TPW - Target Production Date (which is always a Monday). The build date is when it actually rolls of the line (except in some unusual circumstances).

I had a TPW in Dec when supposably the plant is not building for inventory reasons? I called the dealer who told me this and said it would be after that. Several days later he calls and says "Oh your car is here" So for me I guess TPW was just a BS number as even if they did build in the TPW date they gave me, there was no way it was built and shipped to me that quick.

Does the sticker show build date?

No, the sticker does not show build date. Your dealer can pull the GM VIS report of status history and that will show your build date.

The BS part of your story is your dealer telling you they don’t build cars in December.
TPW’s are real numbers which is estimating the WEEK your car will be built. 90%+ of the time the car is built that week. It could possibly roll over the the next week in some situations.
