Any idea what's causing this? My PPF installer first said they won't cover it because it's probably from the wipers. I've never touched the wipers and they're nowhere near there when they move. They cut a little back and fixed it for free but said next time is on me. It's also slightly doing it on the other side by the other wiper too.
Is this a defect in installation or something that I'm supposedly doing?
How far under the backside of the hood does the ppf go? It almost looks like it’s not wrapped enough around the hood to create a good seal. also normally the underside of the hood isn’t as smooth as the rest of the car so it may not be able to make a good seal.
Another possibility is that the ppf is contacting the plastic piece when you open and shut the hood creating this issue. If it’s from contact from shutting the hood I would think cutting the ppf before the seam rather than wrapping should solve the problem.
regardless definitely seems like an installation error and not sure how the wipers would ever come close to that area.
I'll have to look when I get home to see where's it wrapped to. They basically cut the bad looking piece off and said "good to go, you'll pay next time if it peels up" which it sounds like it will if it's not even wrapped in that area anymore.

That's what it looks like to me. The gap between the hood and the black plastic gets very narrow where the damage is.
Clearly they F-U by not tucking it under the hood’s edge. So you need to tell them to do that or they have to keep replacing it. I would be tempted to put them on the spot by asking them to explain just how a wiper can reach/touch the hood!

Question, what brand of PPF did you buy?
I asked them how it's coming in contact and they said "we don't know but it is". They then were acting accusatory like I changed my wipers and did it. I told them they're the same wipers that came with the car and I never touched them.
I just happened to see your thread listed as I opened up the Forum and clicked on it. Since I have a C6, I am hardly ever in this section. There is a member with a C6 who wraps cars for a living and probably can give you a great analysis of what is happening to yours. Maybe send a PM to Stayinstock and he can probably provide you with some good information. Just a thought.
Also have PPF on my hood. Applied for whole car over 2 years ago as well and happy with it. My hood seams stayed intact and don’t look like what’s happened to yours. I hope you can resolve. The black trim on your front does seem like it might be rubbing the hood in some areas where the PPF seam is on the hood? That black trim is not rubbing the hood on my car. I agree that the wiper is nowhere near the affected area.

I can’t see how your wipers could mess with the PPF - does not look like they come close to touching the hood. I’d get a second opinion from another shop.

Typically the back edge of the hood has some rough areas in the paint where it's not polished as smooth at the flat surface of the hood is. I had that on my C7s and my C8. I'm thinking the installer could not get the PPF to completely seal to that area.
As others have said. It truly looks like an install issue. Others with same car and PPF done have this issue. Turn the wipers on for the installer to show them the blades is not the issue. Also if the installer is xpel authorized installer. The install and the product are covered for 10 years. Since the installer is telling you that its your fault and not the install. I would take it to somewhere else and have it fixed correctly and get reccomendation from xpel or local references.

You can take this up with Xpel directly and they can advise you if this is on the installer which from what i am seeing is a bad install. Look over the warranty info to see how they cover defects and such. Keep us posted!

It's XPEL.
Find out if they are an authorized XPEL dealer better yet see it there is another authorized XPEL dealer near you then drop by that shop and ask them to look at it. I’m confident they’ll tell you it’s a bad install and they may even be willing to replace it under Xpel’s warranty. Even if they don’t you can use their feedback if your current shop continues gives you crap.
BTW, after it’s gets replacement you can report the issue to XPEL. They really care about their brand and will decertify a shop and on occasion blacklist them from being able to buy product from XPEL.
I also have a 23 purchased in October (22) and PPF. I don't have this problem but if I did, and I couldn't see how it contacts anything else, I would definitely be holding the PPF installer responsible. The fact that they don't want to warranty it says they are not worth your business.
