Just installed the Borla Atak exhaust on my '21 C8 Z51 Corvette. Wow, they sound incredible! I'm really pleased with how they turned out. I can even tone them down in tour mode when I head out for early morning golf on weekends.
When I was at the dealer, they asked if I wanted the "cover" installed. I was initially unsure, but they mentioned it looks awesome without it, and most customers opt not to install it. I decided to go without it. However, I later called Borla, and they recommended installing it, emphasizing that it's designed as part of the system.
Has anyone else here had experience with this? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
What “cover”…..? The black heat shield over the center section? If so, then yes, it should be installed as that’s part of the design that Borla spent quite a bit of time perfecting. Also, any warranty claims with Borla would certainly be denied.
The “cover” is actually a heat shield. Funny, that was the hardest part of my install as the pipe clamps shifted during shipping and I had a hard time getting it to align. Yes, it might look better, but serves a purpose of shielding heat from the rear valance and bumper.
Yup...included for a reason. That's a big part of why Borla was able to gain GM validation and offer an optional system that carries a Genuine GM part #.
You play golf on the weekends, you're never going to get that thing hot enough to cause yourself any issues. Kidding aside, it's part of the system so not sure why you wouldn't want it installed. It isn't just for the rear valence, it wraps fully around the system to shield everything back there from the heat. The trunk gets hot enough in stock configuration that I would not dream of making it hotter. But mine is a daily car so I might have different priorities than some.

I haven't experienced that issue. However, I also have a Borla system on my '21 C8 Z51. Sounds terrific. The warranty is terrific, too -- as long as you are the original owner. If you sell the car, the Borla warranty doesn't go with it. That is my situation. Borla was installed by the previous owner 17 months ago. I've had the car for five months. I got a Check Engine light, and a quick On-Star diagnosis showed an issue with an exhaust valve. I'm praying that Borla will show me some grace and replace the valve under warranty. More to follow.
