Just took delivery last night and have a solid, non-flashing, CEL -- I'm planning to call OnStar, but are there any "dumb" fixes I can do? Thinking of ensuring the gas cap is on etc.
Just get an OBDII scanner and check it yourself. These are very cheap at AutoZone or NAPA these days. Besides, the pattern is to reset it on a new a couple of times if it is not a serious code, and it finally goes away. So strange, but it seems to work for others. I have never had a CEL on my new ERAY in 500 miles so far.
Welcome to Glitchville, in all likelihood. I've used my ol' cheapo Autel OBDII scanner on more than a half-dozen vehicles over the years. Good to have one on hand.
open up the owners manual and find out how to access the battery. Shut all the doors and pull the negative battery cable off for five minutes, reattach… That will reset the ECU.
also, you can reach up and hit the OnStar button and ask them to read you the codes… Post them here and we can usually decipher them.
Thanks for the advice everyone. It did go away -- opened/closed the gas door which I think may have been the reason. Outside of that I didn't do anything unless the car sorted itself out.
I would absolutely ensure the gas cap is fully on and sealed when you get a moment.

I would love one. The new capless communist ones are a constant hassle at gas stations and need a funnel and if you do it wrong it shoots gas all over the ground, which is apparently extra friendly to the environment.

3 C7’s and a C8…yet to have that happen. The most I have had to do at certain gas stations is to flip handle upside down to keep the flow going and not clicking off

Pump handle 90 degrees to the rear end (0300 on the clock) usually keeps the pump pumping for mine.
