Why did it have to be in a contained space? Why couldn't it be similar to most oil filters out there? By making it a bespoke component, GM increased the cost dramatically.
I am not aware of another car with an external trans filter.
Shelby GT500 and Maserati MC20 DCTs. Possibly the same filter as the C8.
Many DCTs have external filters and they are cartridge filters. They can handle higher pressures and take up less space per media area than a typical spin on.

Design For Serviceability (DFS) is not a concept GM embraces. Just look at some of the debacles over the last few years.....C8 tranny, belt driven oil pumps on the back side of a diesel engine, etc. Its a scam to get your $ for very expensive services at the dealership.
Don’t buy a C8. Don’t buy a Chevy. Don’t buy GM. Maybe a Yaris.

DCT hydrulic pressure are a lot higher hen the ~60 psi max engine oil pressure. Don't recall seeing the actual pressures but the eSLD electric motor driven external pump on the C7 eLSD operated up to ~3000 psi. Could use than much to load the side clutch plates. Those same clutch plates are inside the DCT so would need high pressure. Might also need to the front dual clutches.
Yep making a metal "can" to hold 3000 psi is not like the simple stamped sheet metal engine oil filter. At 3000 psi may need to be certified by ASME for high pressure tanks!
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
