Not to , but all buttons/switches can be found in an owner's manual somewhere - regardless of vehicle. Understanding what the do may be something else.
I understand that but the manual that came with my 23 C8 does not have the forward collision alert listed under number 21 on the introduction page. It just has the Z mode control. In any case I push the button and nothing happens. Could it be that my car is not equipped with this collision alert system.

I didn't think collision alert was added until 2024 model year, if yours is a 2023, that button shouldn't be there. Very strange. Or I'm wrong.
Sounds like your steering wheel was replaced. If the airbag had deployed, GM requires that the steering wheel be replaced. Was you car in a collision? Bought from a dealer or private sale?
Do you know what trim level it is (1LT, 2LT, 3LT)? For 2023, only the 3LT comes with the leather airbag cover. If you don't have a 3LT, that may be why the steering wheel was changed (although it is not necessary to change the entire steering wheel to upgrade).
Ok, guys, I think I've found it. I did a CarFax check on the car and it did have an air bag deployed. The whole steering wheel must have been replaced as suggested. No damage was reported and the car is pristine so I'm not unhappy. I did an Experion Autocheck prior and found nothing. Should have done a CarFax check as well. I'm having an oil change tomorrow. I'll have the car checked for any signs of damage while It's on the lift and report back. Thanks for all of your input.

Woah, you didn't do a carfax on a used car purchase? I'd be scared now that you know the airbag was deployed. Also, I'd be pissed if they put the wrong steering wheel on my car. I'd make them fix it.
