Woah, you didn't do a carfax on a used car purchase? I'd be scared now that you know the airbag was deployed. Also, I'd be pissed if they put the wrong steering wheel on my car. I'd make them fix it.
Carfax can be wrong so it can’t be relied on exclusively. You must do a physical inspection on a lift. How do I know? My 07 C6 was purchased in 2012 used and I ran the carfax and it was spotless. While under the car about a year after purchase trying to find a place to hide a key I noticed a fiberglass repair on the inside rear fender just after the back bumper. Previous owner repaired it off the books. I was annoyed because I specifically asked if the car has ever had any body damage and was told no. It was a good repair because I couldn’t see any thing looking at it from the side. Learned my lesson. Whenever I buy a used car I now inspect on a lift.
Speaking of buttons and knowing your car........ please familiarize yourself with the manual door releases. Folks have died because they were locked inside. I always give my new passengers a 10 second heads up on the release just in case. Never can be too careful.
Is this true? I had never heard of it. Was it in a C8, was the death from not knowing how to manually get out or some other reason such as being incapacitated?

Carfax is helpful, but it's not perfect. Case in point: put a divet in my truck's fender backing out of the garage. Caught the inside edge of the wheel opening on a stack of firewood. No big deal. Had the dealer's body shop replace the moulding/trim piece, and it's good as new. That repair shows up as a 'Collision' in carfax.

100% agreed. Carfax is just a tool, imperfect but a tool. I was just shocked that the OP did neither carfax or inspection.

Yes it's 100% true and has happened before, someone either died or was burned because they couldnt get out....I believe at least one example was a C6 (Where they first deployed the over ride because of the electric release)

That's what they get for not reading the manual. God's just taking out the garbage.

It wasn't a burn situation. Unfortunately, there were at least 2 failed opportunities for that owner to get out of the car. 1st: The manual door release lever. 2nd: It was a coupe, so the roof panel could have been removed.

This is invaluable! Can easily imagine a scenario where my passenger would have no clue how to evacuate if button inop. Great point, thanks!
