New Software Update

Ok, so the two types of notices - if you have prevented automatic downloading to the car by the settings (on mine anyway), you will get a notice that an update is ready to be downloaded. But, if you have allowed updates to be downloaded, you will (or should) get a notice that an update is ready to install. See the difference?
Its my understanding the updates should not install without owner permission. However, I have at least once received a strange notice about an update failure on my infotainment display, when I was never notified of an update and did not approve installation. Don't know what that was about.
There is also wording in the Owner's Manual about updates being delivered without notice.
Anyway, there is also a way on my 2021 to review the update history from the infotainment system display, and also I can "check" for availability of updates. This will check for updates that may or may not have been downloaded to the car but not installed.
Edit: to further confuse things, there are also notices of an update to one or more of the Apps that you may have in your infotainment system. These are different from your system updates, and should not affect any of the vehicle functions.

On mine I can review the update history and see the descriptions - they are often cryptic. That's as good as it gets. I have attached examples from my DIC on my 2021. You just have sit in the car and scroll through the menus to find all this stuff. If you have a 2024-2025 its might be different - but same approach - scroll through your options to lean how it works.
Attachmnent one shows the menus with System selected. Two lines of interest are About, and Updates. Clicking updates will allow you to check for available updates. Clicking About will allow you to review your update history. And then I have posted two examples of "Release Details". I do not know if you can find this on the phone app - I never fool with that phone app.
Because of folks reporting issues with car staying on and draining battery my MO is:
- initiate download
- come back 1 hour later
- if it did not take wait till I am at dealer and tech do it via ODD port
Yep super easy when it works! When it doesn't can prevent the battery saving circuits to activate and next morning, battery drained and car won't start. See my MO in post above yours!
I have not and plan not to update. My fix for draining battery issues when doing OTA updates is... Not doing OTA updates. If there is something major then I'll take it in to get programmed while getting the oil or something else worked on. I like others do hope there was a way to program the google garbage out, but I have no doubt GM is making money off of it. One of the worse corrupt, sued over privacy company is the one GM wants.
