Any concerns about the air bag location and possible deployment?

Nice. Ironically, perhaps, we did much the same with the first vinyl roofs in the early-mid 60s. They bubbled, but they filled with condensation that has to be removed by syringe before regluing and pressing down. So, we seem to have really come along way in 60+ years!

Just get the 2LZ if you do a Z06. I've had a 3LT Stingray (70th with full Alcantara interior), then Z06 and E-Ray, both with 2LZ trim level, and I did not miss the 3LZ at all. Of course, both were 2-tone interior with Alcantara seat inserts, which I think gets upgraded center console leather for a nicer look/feel. But you shouldn't ever really be touching the dash other than to clean it, and the 2LZ dash looks fine.

Nice work and looks like a very effective DIY fix.

If you buy a Z06, my recommendation would be to get a 1LZ because it saves weight on the car (performance), most of the features are unnecessary, and GM overcharges for options.

Agree IF you can get the interior color you want as a 2LT or 2LZ best financial buy in addition to not having Mulan Dash! Even if you opt for the better GT2 seat @ $1700 the 3LT adds ~3000 extra for not a lot! Yep because I wanted the interior ONLY available with a 3LT for my 2014 C7, 2020 C8 and now my E-Ray I paid ~$3000 extra for not much other than the interior I wanted. Yep I get a nicely stitched headliner in my coupe BUT hardly even see it! Have to bend my neck unnaturally! And the steering wheel is nice as are the "A" pilers BUT not worth $3000 extra IMO.

BUT smart Marketing by GM. They only have Dipped and some other interior colors like the Artemis, I have in my E-Ray available IF you order a 3LZ, in that case. If you can find a color you like in a 2LT/LZ go for it!

For my 2017 Grand Sport and made the Kalahari in my Grand Sport look like a Patchwork Quilt. So bought a 2LT with Red Interior. Then thought could use a little Red on that black Dash so BOUGHT a 3LT Upper Dash Pad. I could not tell the difference in the 3LT addition and my 2LT Black Dash. The 2LT Black Dash also felt soft, whatever backing was compliant and pushed in!

All Three Are 3LT. Only a Special Model, Spice Red Was Like MY 2014 3LT

These were my options for my 2017 Grand Sport. I elected to get a 2LT as GM got cheap with 3LTs!

My 3LT Addition Upper Dash Pad!
Both had a faux leather look made during manufacture. When I pressed the 2LT Black Dash it felt soft so whatever backing was soft probably not the Vinyl!
BTW in 2018 GM copied my idea. The 2LT had a seat color upper dash Pad! GM no doubt made the color decision well before I thought of it but thought it was interesting.

Very small, if I told you look right here and pointed to it, you could barely see one of the punctures. if I just look over from my seat I don't see it. I used the smallest needle I could find that the glue would still (barely) flow thru. I warmed the glue up as well to make it flow better. Like I said Im super happy w/ it, I held my breath and wondered what I was doing when I put the needle in the first time LOL. It was a bit of a leap of faith. Still will stay away from another 3 Lz interior when I get the Z.

I was going to do that, here it is. Again both bought on Amazon and the needles were 25 gauge.

good question, not on my end because I simply injected the glue between the leather and the layer under it that it was attached to. Not under the material covering the dash.

A couple upholstery places wouldn't touch it because it was in an air bag location.

I agree 100%, I saw a 3lz interior with the alacantra dash, i would think would not have the leather bubbling issues? Idk.

I appreciate the feedback, im struggling with exterior colors and that's what's kept me from pulling the trigger. U always buy a year old to knock off depreciation. Have had 3 red letters, considering white or silver and black 2lz interior so that's my hang up at this point.

My Mercedes GL is doing the exact same thing on a smaller scale somewhere around the cluster. A very small bubble

Not bothering me enough yet, but in my mind, my attack plan would have been to inject the needle in the vicinity of the stitching rather than the middle of the leather.

Would that have worked for you, OP?

Thankfully, my C8 is a 2LT.

Looks good though. My understanding is that the C8 dash, unlike the C7, can be replaced in sections. Did you price just that one section for replacement?

Several of the parts sites say you have to replace the airbag if you replace that section of dash. I'd like to see that part removed to understand why. Should just be able to unplug the airbag, remove it & install it in the new dash piece that same way you do with a new steering wheel, I would think.

I really liked the full Alcantara interior, and if it had been available when doing either of the next C8s, I would have probably gone for it. What I've since realized is I only really noticed/appreciated the Alcantara dash while I had the car. As soon as I moved to the next car with 2LZ, I didn't notice the "loss" of the Alcantara finishes.

Glad to hear you liked it, I see mixed reviews on it. There is a 70th anniversary Z06 I may peek at, the entire dash, console and doors are covered in it. I think it looks higher end but again, seems split 50/50 on reviews. Only worry is how well it holds up and that too has mixed thoughts on it.

If I were to do another C8 Z06 (really keep thinking about adding one to go with the E-Ray), I really think I might try and find a 2023 white pearl 70th Anniversary version.

The Chevy extended warranty does not cover upholstery.

I'm very glad that I stumbled across the leather dash issues with the 3LT. My wife and I have been shopping for a pre-owned C8 and had originally been looking at LT3 trim level only. Now we have revised our target cars to only LT2 trim levels. We've found one we are getting that is an LT2 but optioned up very nice.

Good job I’ve also used this method a couple times over the years with good results.
