I had the same issue with the OEM filter. It would slide off and not snap in like you would expect.I lubed it but still would not stay in but stayed in far enough until I could start the housing back on and start a few bolts.I changed it when I got the message 17k miles and 4 years.
I replaced mine and other that removing way too many screws with the 2nd smallest STAR drive was just a PITA. But my problem is it still comes up on my screen the Change Air Filter and I hit reset and nothing happens? What's the deal?
I'm seeing more and more counterfeit products sold on Amazon. I stopped buying a lot of products on Amazon . Seek out reliable vendors such as Rock Auto or buy from the Gm parts & accessories website. Just my .02.
I bought one from my dealer when their service dept sent out a mailer with a $49 coupon for a C8 air filter. I'm sure this was the price they would sell it for if you were having it installed but I just took the coupon to the parts counter. Guy didn't seem too happy but he sold it to me. I'll install it at the 4 year mark.
Bought mine at Rockauto. Was very tight. Lid cover didn’t seem to reinstall flush. Next time I’ll heat up in sun and try some lube. Replaced mine at 2 years and 12,000 miles. In my opinion the old filter was filthy, but I daily drive.
a) Compare old and new markings, build quality etc.... ensure the new is not counterfeit.
b) If the old reinstalled easily, what is the reason as compared to the new, with the new not installing?
c) Yep, our co-members advice of some grease on the leading edge and sunlight/ heat to aid the new's flexibility is great.
I tried to purchase a Tranny filter through Amazon with info from deals people were getting on this forum. When I received the part no GM seal on the box. Reached out to Amazon Customer Service(CS) who sent me to a GM rep to verify the parts authenticity. they could not verify and suggested I return it for a refund. No hassle. Thought I was going to have to eat it but CS came through!

I bought supposedly OEM filter on Amazon and could not get it to fit - way to tight. Only have 6K miles on 2022 so put old one back on (it looked new) returned the other one, bought one here from member who took it off right after delivery, at least I know it was once installed.
