Hello all,
I really like the sentry mode Tesla has, and I was wondering if you guys have a sentry style 360 dash camera that can always remain on while your vette is driving/parked somewhere in public.
I don’t like teslas, but man that sentry mode is a cool perk.
Most high-end Dash Camera makers offer a Parking Mode feature, providing you "hard wire" the camera. When you shut off the car it switches to a direct battery feed. The ones I have used have a safety feature to prevent total battery drain either via a switch as part of the hard wire kit or in the software for the camera app.
Tesla to me are the cheapest thing out there the backseat in an s is like sitting surrounded by cardboard at least the one I have been in Any accord is more plush

awesome! Did you ever catch anyone doing anything to your car when it was parked??

I don't disagree, but that has nothing to do with the thread subject.
Only 1 time in the 5 or 6 years I have been using them - it was an "old" guy who yanked on the door handle then walked off... Assumed he mistook it for his truck maybe ???

Reminds me of our trip last year to Phoenix. We had stopped for a sack of fast food and as we were sitting in my SUV, my wife's door swings open. The guy that opened the door had eyes that looked like dinner plates and he was apologizing all over the place, he thought he was getting in his SUV.

I tried to open the door on someone else's car once. In the dark, it looked identical to the rental I was driving.
I run dashcams in all my cars. The trick is you have to have a hardwired power supply that taps into a non-switched fuse, and which shuts off the camera at a certain voltage, to prevent draining the battery down too low. This helps ensure the battery isn't dead when you go to start it, but the downside of course is it limits how long the camera will operate before the cutoff. Depends on the unit and also how many channels (cameras) are running, and how much capacity your battery has. I typically only get 2-3 hours of runtime before the voltage cutout. Would be fine for going out to lunch, but won't protect you if you're parked away from home all day somewhere. Unlike our ICE cars, a Tesla has a relative behemoth of a power supply that will keep the cameras going probably for months while parked.
It seems many folks tap into the mirror for power, which works, except that it's a switched source. No power when the ignition is off. I also don't like that you're taxing the wiring beyond what it's sized for, but it's probably ok. When I installed my dash cam I couldn't find any unswitched power source on the driver's side, so I tapped into some fuses in the fuse panel between the seats and ran wires under the upholstery over to the rail carpet between the passenger seat and door, and up into the dash and up the A-pillar. It's extremely important that any wires you run are behind any airbags

damn, after all that ima just let my car get scratched up 🤣
thankyou for the insight my man. I dislike teslas but that’s one feature that has every ICE beat IMO.
chances of something like that happening are very slim so I like those chances. I’ll keep staying in nice areas.
Tesla will be a tough sell once government $7500 subsidy is removed.
aw they will just drop the price again.

but if you did you’d be glad you had it.
certain Cadillacs have a 360 camera sytem but does not active when the car is parked. Ever see the Tesla videos of folks getting caught keying the car? Pretty good evidence
Have a front and rear dash cam in every car I own including my C8. Dash cam paid for itself twice in my Tacoma. Damaged in my parking lot at work. $1100 damage the first time and $600 the second time. Caught the plate on camera both times. Well worth the investment.
