My past 02 z06 was an 840rwhp fun toy. I want to up the hp a little in my 22 z51 htc and headers are my go to as a first mod. Having said that I didn't play into the name brand game on headers and got obx headers for the z06 back in the day. I start looking for headers for the 22 and see the same game being played....1500 for headers..NOPE.
I have found others for between 399 and 1000. 1 7/8 headers made of the same steel. My question is.... have any of you any experience with the more reasonably priced headers so I can look into getting a set real quick?
I had an interesting experience with headers that I have seen many others complain of, melting lots of wiring, coil packs and spark plugs particularly on the passenger side of the engine. I used ARH headers (brand isnt going to matter here but coating type could) and they were jet coated. I planned to try to wrap them with DEI exhaust wrap and install plug boots as well but decided not to risk further damage. It caused tons of issues. I tracked that car but heard from others that never tracked their cars with similar experiences. Coating is not going to be enough for everyone to avoid heat issues melting things. Not a mod Ill ever do again on a C8.
SS 304 lets a bit less than ½ the heat through compared to mild steel (almost never recommended for headers, except mock-ups)
SS 321 lets around ½ the heat through as compared to SS 304 and can take another 200ºF exhaust gas temperature.
SS 347 lets around 25% less heat through compared to SS 321 and can take another 100ºF exhaust gas temperatures--often used in turbo charged race engines.
Inconel lets even less heat through--and costs a literal fortune.

My plans were, with the money saved on the purchase,, to send the headers to have them coated inside and out and keep those Temps down even more.

I guess that things such as quality of welds and fitment aren't in your OBX dictionary.

Still have them, zero leaks, didn't rust through or anything, fit perfect out of the box. That's the goal isn't it? Welds that hold and good fit. I didn't care how they looked at the time but I didn't see any crazy welds that would have concerned me.
