Default Headers? Mufflers?

One of the biggest mods for previous cars seems to have been headers. With the upswing mounted stock headers it seems like there isn't much room for improvement there. Maybe the first mod that will show some true performance improvement will be mufflers, which will flow better than stock and increase/improve the exhaust sound (everywhere but California).

Looks a 1-piece (Am I wrong?). If it is a 1-piece cutting-welding etc, we do know Borla, Corsa, Magnaflow will make something and many in here will buy them. Another fact, many of you will remove the cats and out-tune the O2 sensors.

Want to bet on the tuning aspect? I’ll bet you it’ll be years before anyone cracks the new ECU.

I bet that GM SELLS a tuning option that VOIDS ALL powertrain items from them and gives you an encryption path to all modules. Pay to play....

No one knows that at this time. Maybe the new electronics will be capable of making fueling adjustments etc. to optimize bolt on modifications without a tune.

I’d leave the headers alone as there minimal gains To be achieved.
The easy route to more power and Sportscar sound is a set of German 200 cell ultra highflow extra large catalytic converters heat wrapped in 321 stainless steel. A set of 6” round trimetallic catalytic converters should unleash around 25 to 30hp with no check engine lights and no Ecu tuning required.
As far as the rear down tubes and large rear muffler I bet another +10hp could be achieved . Have to x Ray it and typical before and after Dyno develop it.
‘I can guarantee you that it appears that some 35 to 40 pounds could be eliminated in weight from that giant rear muffler system. Add lightness go faster.

Seems like Fabspeed will be developing some products for the C8

What you circled is not that cats. You circled the flex flange on the pipe between the cats and the muffler. If you look up additional photos you will see the cats right after the headers. There is a bolt on flange between the cat and the portions you circled. Easiest option would be to cut the pipes after the flex flange and just before the muffler and then straight pipe it or fab a replacement muffler. The AFM valves are located right after the flex joint. I suppose an aftermarket muffler could include additional valves to mount the afm controllers, at higher expense.

I'm certain we'll soon see some exhaust systems that are the equvialent of long tube headers that replace the factory cats as well and run down to the muffler attach area. down to something like this..
