OH gosh, I can't resist. Snow in Miami has a large dataset to pull from to conclude that it is highly unlikely to snow in 3rd week of September in Miami based on historical data. It is an empirical, statistical prediction. However, it does not follow that this is a valid comparison to 0-60 differentiation because you, we, everyone has ZERO data to pull from. It is a supposition only. Likely a valid one, but one that you would bet an old car on, not a new one or the house.....

You can feel 0.1 second difference 0-60, sure you can. Get real.

Well considering it's 0-60 mph, not 0-60', there's a big difference. I guarantee you I can feel a tenth in 60' (drag raced for 33 yrs actual purpose built cars, not taking my street car to the strip), but 0-60 mph, doubtful.

Agree 100%. I've got well over 400 1/4 mile passes under my belt over the years which makes me no expert what so ever but believe that one could possibly decipher a 0.1 second difference in a 60 foot time especially if it is a car that you are used to running at a drag strip. Feeling a difference of one tenth of one second 0-60 is absolutely ridiculous.

When your talking about a car that can do a 0-60 mph pull in 3.0 or 2.9 seconds, the .1 second difference should be visible on the timer that clocks your 60 ft time, and .1 can most definitely be felt. The launch and hook is stronger and a sensitive butt meter can detect the difference.

Think about it though, I would think that someone that monitors there 1/4 mile passes closely probably will see that when there 60ft times fluctuate a tenth up or down, the 0-60 mph time fluctuates also and maybe the same .1. What can be felt is the tenth quicker 60ft time.

I used to drag race an '03 SVT Cobra for a couple years that was putting 465 HP/ 485TQ to the wheels. The car would run 11.9 to 12.3. The best ET I had was run that felt rather poor to me, thought I blew the launch and was shocked when the guy in the box on the return ramp handed me my slip. Its all about perception and 4 of the five 5 senses. Ain't nobody feeling a tenth of a second 0-60MPH or in a 1/4 mile.

Punky, what you can feel is a better launch or the difference between a 1.90 60 ft time and a 2.0 60 ft time. The net result would also be a better 0-60 mph time which is not present on any 1/4 mile timing system. True , if someone could not feel the .1 difference in a 60 ft time , that person would not feel any difference to 60mph or the 1/4 mile et difference of a tenth of a second.

2.8 seconds 0-60 would be very impressive if it is reproducible. Was that time obtained in a C8 equipped with the Z51 option? Not sure why you are banging your head over a 2.8. If that is true it is great.

Wow this subject's been beaten to death! But what's comical are two major comparisons that actually brink on the absurd. First point is a"Zero to 60 mph" is just a "selling point" for a sales pitch same as advertising the" sizzle" in the steak! If you really look at the time slips at a drag strip the computer read out records your: "reaction time"; your 60 foot time; your 330 foot time; your 1/8 mile time & mph; your 990/1000 foot time; and finally your 1/4 mile Elapsed Time and MPH. Not zero to 60 because it's "irrelevant"! It's only an alleged time for the "stop light" crowd and anyone that thinks they're sensitive and acute enough to detect a .1 or even .2 seconds in a car without any "seat time" (know your car's every run) is just fooling themselves. It's comparable to someone saying they can detect .1 or .2 thousands of a degree in temperature or when your woman friend is faking an organism ! It's total Just be happy that the C8 is capable of these times and if you're at a stop light next to a MCClaren or Porsche you won't be totally embarrassed.

Heck Fire, it takes my Corvette 1.79 sec to go the 1st 60 ft at, the drag-strip and that's a good 60'. Have no idea how long it would takes to go from 0-60 MPH.

I can tell you for sure I can feel the cars TQ in 1st 4 gears, but not it's MPH, and 4me, growing up with the old pull you back in the seat engine TQ was a great feeling, I've missed for a long time with new cars.

The newest Vette I've ever driven, was the first one an only one I' ever bought new, a 1969, as it was the 1st and last new one I could afford for years. The C8 is a fresh breath of air for me design wise, compared to other Gen's. If it's engine can keep me feeling it's TQ pulling me back in seat, I'll be a happy old man. If not I'll still appreciate it for it's look.

I'm going with the C51's gearing, I'm even going to replace it's spoiler with the wing, an all the mechanical options.

Don't know if any of them are that much better than stock as equipped, ones, but I can still brag about it's ability to take my Bank Account from $100,000+ Down to about $12,000.00 in less than 60sec in the sales manager's office when he runs it thru that little old machine.. I can sure feel that in the seat of pants....LOL

Y'all have fun now, I'm going out in the back yard with my metal detector, to locate some of my money jars hid out there.

Any way, hope my Bad attempt to try an lighten up this thread a little was acceptable. The above is all true, accept for the part where the money's hid in Jars. I tried that long time back, an found that paper the Goverment use to print money on is about worthless, as it still rots in a sealed jar. Life lesson learned!

ITs all good and fun and heated arguments.. one thing I think we all agree is that its BS that GM is playing these stat games while people are putting in orders.

Its like getting many cute pictures of a girl but never getting the full body shot.

Can a moderator please rename this thread to “Grumpy Old Men”?😂

I started this thread making sure if I didn’t get Z51 I wouldn’t get a one legger. Honestly probably a pretty stupid question, but it will be my first Corvette so forgive my ignorance. Anyway, let me try and sum up. If you plan to track the car, Z51 is a great package. If just for street driving, do whatever you want and understand it is really personal preference. For a street car both will be plenty fast and a guaranteed smile maker!😁

I see all of these Z51 discussions focused on straight line acceleration. The main benefit of the Z51 package (and newer Corvettes in general) is in the curves. I would agree that if you don't track your car and only drive fast in a straight line then the Z51 package has minimal benefits. But if you enjoy canyon carving then there is a definite benefit to the Z51 package. And you don't need to be driving like a mad man to feel it.

Exactly and that's been my point all along! You don't need the Z51 package for straight line acceleration at all.! It's a great package and it's worth $ 5K but as for me, I debated it on my last 2 Corvettes and didn't get it since I'm more of a straight line guy. However the base package in every Corvette isn't a slouch either. Just sayin!

If someone could feel a 0.1 sec difference in the first 60 ft then most likely someone with a good sense of motion is going to feel that same 0.1 sec difference in 0 to 60 MPH since the first 60 ft from a dig will be about 2/3 the time of a 3.0 sec 0 to 60 MPH run.
