Does anyone yet know how they handle manual shifts? I've currently got a 335i with a slushbox that you can control with the shift lever while in sport mode. I don't like it because as soon as you manually select a gear you have to continue manually selecting them until you pull it back out of sport mode and then reengage it. I'm cross-shopping the 'Vette against a Porsche Boxster and have test-driven one with the PDK. Porsche's system lets you use the levers to manually override the automatically selected gear for 20 seconds OR put it into a fully manual mode. The former is by FAR the easier option. Slow into a corner, hit the downshift lever, use the higher revs coming out of the corner and then let it take shifting back over as it sees fit - it's almost always right about when to shift except for the downshift in a corner it can't see. (And don't give me grief for not wanting to control it manually at all times. My 2006 Corvette Z51 was a 6-speed manual. I just can't put up with that in Atlanta traffic anymore and Porsche's system would be great for daily driving).
They have told me it will hold the RPM in manual mode, you can bounce off the rev limiter. I don't know if they have your semi-automatic, automatic mode or not. Cross shopping with Boxter? Very, very different animals.....

LOL. Don't let the "Wheres the manual"? Crowd see that!
Good question though. I think we will all get a LOT more info in the next few months ,as the GM the information ban is lifted and the car mags publish their driving impressions. I'm dyiing to see what Randy Probst can do with a base car and a z51 car and his impressions.
If it behaves like the C7 auto, you can be running along in auto mode and hit the downshift paddle to put it in manual mode and it will stay in manual mode as long as you are frequently hitting the paddles up or down. If you want it to go back into auto you can either hold the upshift paddle for a few seconds or just quit hitting the paddles all together and it will resume back into auto.

True, but not nearly as different as they once were. The Corvette is a relatively heavy but muscular sports car while the Boxster GTS is a relatively light but under-torqued sports car (HP is completely acceptable on the street but still not overwhelming). However, both are mid-engined canyon carvers, have plenty of room for a 6'2" driver and by the time you fully load them out they'd both be very luxurious and perfectly fine as daily drivers.

had several Boxster in the past, nice handling car and with more power will be a little better than they use to be.
