Default ** C8 Laps COTA - PDR Video **

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-8c...ature=youtu.be

We picked up our C8 in Detroit on Friday, drove 1400 miles and got home to Houston on Saturday night. Then got up early Sunday morning and drove to Circuit of the Americas (COTA). 15-time SCCA national champion, John Heinricy, tested our still stock (for now) 2020 C8 around COTA. Here is the video from the factory PDR (performance data recorder) that comes as a factory option from Chevrolet. We wanted to do baseline testing on our factory car before we begin our R&D modification process. John's best lap time was a respectable 2:33.

You said it was stock but then said you had already modded it before you took delivery?

I did not hear anything about temp or brake degradation on a decent couple of hot laps, that's encouraging..... looks like mild conditions, even thought the track was wet?

We had the dealer install the factory Z51 rear brake ducts and upgraded brake fluid. Brakes worked well and yes the track was damp.

Was the car given a performance alignment?

It looked good out there. Not slow!

Really quiet though. There was a stock c7 grand sport going around also and it is quite bit louder. (it didn't have xpipes either because my car does and its another degree louder).

The first session was run on stock alignment. Best lap time on a cool, dry track was 2:33 with the nose pushing. Gave the front a couple degrees of negative camber then went out and ran on a damp track which is this video. Turn in was improved and less push.

Interesting that the driver is brushing the brakes through nearly the entire corner many times.

Left-foot braking - glad to see the C8 allows it, it can be a valuable tool in performance situations. Most new cars these days won't allow it and will kill engine power when seeing simultaneous brake and throttle application. Some of that stemmed from the "runaway accel" issue from Toyota a few years back.

Any reason you had it in Touring mode in the COTA video that was published to YouTube? Oops It's in Track Mode
Does the car have Magnetic Ride Control or does Hennessey not need that stuff ;-D

In the video, it's seems to me all the LAPS were run with a Passenger in car. You hear them talking to one another all thru it. If so that's a minimum of at least 140-150 lbs of extra wight in car.

If you wanted to see what the C8 will really do, why the passenger? I also stopped all the Laps at the Green finish-line mark on display to check times. Am I right about passenger? I'm sure hoping I'm right.

You also stated it was your driver's first time at COTA, so track layout was new to him, so I understand he needs seat time to improve his Lap times also, professional or not, an also I hope that's alone with no passenger (if I'm right about that) so as to provide for a better baseline for future modifications to base Lap time improvements on.

Then again I do make mistakes in my reading an viewing. Hope that's not case with this post!

Video was with a passenger on damp track, the 2:33 was when dry and I assume solo though they can correct me if wrong. I guess I missed the part about Heinricy’s first time at COTA, this is the gentleman by the way...

It looks wet out there in the Hennessey video. I ran a 2:35.84 in my stock Z51 w/ MRC on some pretty cycled out tires.

I haven't seen anywhere if the Track mode has "sub settings" like the C7 under the Track mode "parent". So, does the C8 have the sub settings for wet, dry, Sport 1, Sport 2 and Race?

Yes, Z51 with MRC has those PTM levels accessible after double pressing TC button once selecting Track mode.
