Default DCT filter and fluid change, DIY how to??

The Owner's Manual says this is a special procedure, take it to the dealer. Helm has not yet released the service manual for the C8, and if past history with Helm holds true, we will not see a C8 Service Manual till late 2021. So, any Chevrolet certified Corvette Mechanics (how about one of the Spring Mountain guys) want to share a 'how to' (YouTube video would be great) on a C8 DCT fluid and filter change?

Hi!
thanks for the question...the owner's manual does state to take to the dealership...it is our recommendation as well. You should not need to change the fluid for quite a while though, unless you plan on taking the car on the track?
Is it something that others won't figure out? If history is any indication...no, lol. You will need a lift, and the filter kit...which I am not sure when they'll release to the public (dealers may/should be able to order already-but don't quote me on that) and the very specific DCT fluid.
the below is from the track prep guide:

DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION FLUID Transmission fluid and external filter should be changed after every 24 hours of track usage. If prompted by the transmission fluid life monitor that remaining fluid life is low, the fluid and filter should be changed as soon as possible. Add an additional 2 qt (2 L) of DCT transmission fluid prior to track usage. It is not required to remove the additional 2 qt (2 L) of DCT fluid. Any transmission level set or change should be performed at your dealer. The transmission fluid used in the dual clutch transmission is a specific transmission fluid. Use of unapproved fluid may cause damage to the transmission. See your dealer for the proper transmission fluid.

Hay Spring Mountain.... thanks for the response, but the C8 owners manual specifically states (foot note #5) that the DCT Filter Canister must be replaced at 7,500 miles. I got myself through college working in a dealer's service dept. The 'new kid' was always assigned to oil changes and other menial tasks. So, I reall don't trust dealer service dudes for routeen maintenance issues.... and a process required ever 7,500 miles is a "routeen function". I have a lift (actually three of them).... and I'm pretty sure Spring Mountain will be performing this "routeen service" in-house. So, if you could share the procedure, I would appreciate the guidance.

HI again,
true on the 7500 mile change for the canister..sorry about that, as we are used to only having cars on the road course, so we service based on that type of usage.
yes, we will be doing this in-house (have been)
I just am unable to post anything at this time about the procedure...
Now as far as having the "new kid" do this service...I cannot attest to that personally. From what I know from my local dealership, they only have two service techs do work on any of our fleet. This procedure is fairly specialized, such as removal of the panels under the car, that I don't think they'll hand it off to the lube tech. Plus, you can always specifically request their Corvette certified tech to do this.

Thank you Spring Mountain guys. I'm sure you are busy as hell right now, but a video of the DCT process when you get the time would be great. I hope to visit with you guys again in 2020 for my 6th visit with Rick and his team.

Am I understanding this correctly:

24 hours of track time between DCT fluid changes.

Average four 20 minute track sessions per track day.

We can do 18 track days before a fluid change is needed.

I wouldn't push things to this limit but sure seems like it will be just filter changes for awhile since I mainly do weekends and track days.

hi,
as with any tracking of the car, it always depends on the track, driver and heat especially. We've had no transmission heat issues at all in the few months we've been running them...the fluid the car uses is expensive, but holds up! plus the cooling elements work!
Make sure you do the extra 2 quarts of fluid prior to the track event(s). what's cool is it is not necessary to remove the fluid from the transmission after. the filter and fluid should be changed at each trans oil service...

‘’can you comment on the stock pads and how they hold up. I did hear a rumor that you were using after market pads.

I don't see why it would have to go to a dealer so long as you have a lift or quick jack. Remove under body panels, remove filter cover, swap filter, top off fluid, put it back together.

we do not use aftermarket pads on the c8 platform...the Brembo stock pads are holding up nicely!
I recently did a 25 minute session on our east track, in 105 degree weather and saw no issues at all with the pads or fade.
those of you who have come out to our facility know how hard on brakes that track is!

Just be real careful putting the filter back in, making sure it snaps in properly. as well when taking the side fill, and bottom drain bolt. use a proper socket or wrench. it's aluminum and can be stripped if not careful. If you don't have a little pump or something to fill the trans up, can be a bit messy too.
some folks will also want the extra two quarts in it after the first change, if they plan on tracking the car...this has to be done from the top, as the side fill is for the stock transmission fluid level...

Yep... it's a big PITA and means I have to remove the trunk liner and airbox every time I do a filter change.

I'm heading to the track this weekend and trying to find any information about how to get to the filler of the transmission. I don't see anything online .
I also have the correct oil coming from the dealership tomorrow.

I would have sworn I saw the procedure somewhere.
Seemed easy.
As I recall, remove trunk liner and yes special care with the four bolts holding the filter cover and tighten in inch pounds.
And yes, take care removing only (only) the correct fill hole bolts.
Again, I can't recall where I saw the procedure.
We will have a confirmed answer soon

DCT Transmission Fill Procedure:
(6/11/2020)
1-Remove Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side)
2-Determine the approximate amount of fluid needed to fill the transmission. (11.62 quarts).
3-A clean funnel and/or hose must be used when filling the transmission with fluid.
4-Fill transmission with fluid until fluid level is at the bottom edge of the filler opening.
5-Install Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side).
6-Run vehicle for 3 to 5 minutes while selecting drive and reverse to fill the clutch circuits. To properly fill the circuits place foot on brake, shift into drive for 30 to 45 seconds then shift into reverse for 30 to 45 seconds then repeat.
7-Stop the engine and perform the following actions within 5 minutes after stopping the engine.
8-Remove Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side) and verify level is at the bottom edge of the fill opening. If not, add additional fluid until the fluid is at the bottom edge of fill plug. 9-Install Transmission Oil Filler Plug.

DCT Transmission for the Track use:
(6/11/2020)
Add 2 quarts (for a total of 13.62 quarts).
Note: Must add extra fluid to the gold plug located on the top of the transmission (under the air cleaner assembly).
Reference:
2020 CORVETTE TRACK PREPARATION guide:
Section 4. FLUID LEVELS:
DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION FLUID:
Transmission fluid and external filter should be changed after every 24 hours of track usage.
