While having my new C8 Ceramic Coated, the detailer advised me that all of my wheels (Carbon Flash Metallic) had significant “...marks on the outer rim of the backside of the wheels. Obviously can’t be seen from the front, but they’re there.” How could this happen on a brand new C8? Does quality matter on a $93k C8 when the defects r out of sight? Would u buy wheels from after market wheel manufacturer if the outer rim of the backside of their wheels had these marks?
That's awful. My 9-year-old oem wheels don't even have any scratches or marks on the inside of the wheels. Unfortunately, they're most likely going to say you didn't bring it up when you took delivery (who checks out the inside of their wheels before signing the paperwork) so you can't prove you didn't drag them around your garage for fun & cause the scratches.
These tires have a good lip on them that would have prevented me from “dragging them around for fun”. These rims were scratched up before the tires were mounted. Just like 19/C7Z indicated, “They we’re kicked around like a hockey puck before the tires were mounted.”

Yes, my point was dealerships/manufacturers like to try to claim the customer is at fault if they didn’t point it out immediately.
OP it won't make you feel any better but I was a victim of this dumbassery with my 08... I got a set of cupwheels shipped to my buddys shop.... i go there. My buddy and I take a front and rear out of the box inspect them? Perfect! Oh I loved those wheels.
Well. In comes "Doug". His manager. This assclown goes to move my wheels.. why? For no reason other than he didn't realize they were mine and thought they were out of place. So this idiot picks up the front.... and puts it ON TOP OF THE REAR. flat.. back of front to front face of rear wheel. I shouted wtf are you doing Doug? My buddy's face turned white.
He then picks it up clanking around and puts it back. I couldn't get over in time to stop this. I should've pretzeled doug because it took me an hour with the polisher to get most of the scratches out. What an assclown.
Maybe Doug is working in the wheel room of the supplier now. Because he didn't work at the shop long after that.
JABCAT I heard ya. I will file a complaint/claim with GM and point out Corvette Forum members like you and 19/C7Z are sayin things like “That’s Awful” and “Kicked around like a hockey puck” when referring to GM’s lack of quality control. I’ll let y’all know what their response is.
My car had the same issue; front wheels only. I documented it at 65 miles (pulled off the OEM wheel/tire assemblies to confirm fit of my track set). Told my dealer who found the same issue on another car that was pending delivery. Dealer had the flange area refinished; I was satisfied with the fix.
GM outsources the mounting/balancing to a third party but IMO it should be caught at installation at the assembly plant. My dealer is pretty tight with the appropriate GM quality team and I believe that it was raised as a quality alert.
Had the same issue. I originally thought the scratches when all the way thru to the aluminum but the white scratches are in the clear coat. When you scratch clear, it turns white.
Used a little 1000 grit sand paper and rubbing compount and about 90% better. Not perfect but its acceptable now on the back side.
Seeing things like this scare me, what with all the problems with C7 wheels being structurally compromised. Those scuffs shouldn't be there. I hope they actually own up, and take care of you.

jeez man there is nothing wrong with those wheels. It was the design..Lol
