Default This is strange.

Disconnecting the transmission from the engine is discussed in the owners' manual. It also says that the disconnection is held until BOTH paddles are released. Well, I found out that you can release ONE of the paddles (either one) and the transmission will stay disconnected from the engine, but only for a short period of time. The transmission re-engages to the engine even though BOTH paddles haven't been released as per the owners' manual.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm.

If you squeeze and hold the Left paddle it will give you the lowest allowable gear. Like if you are going to race in manual mode and you don't know how many clicks to downshift just squeeze and you can go from 8-3 etc... Or what ever the lowest allowable is. Same is true for the Right paddle and up shifting to the highest allowable gear to cruise on the highway.

It's all part of the transmission logic and makes a lot of sense for manual mode.

That's nice and I already knew that. I'm talking about being stopped at a red light and disconnecting the transmission from the engine.

My MO when approaching a stop or Red Light, is I pull both paddles when it's in 3rd or 2nd. Both clutches disengage. When it's stopped I release the left downshift paddle but hold the right unshift right paddle. Then when the light is about to turn Green, or anytime I wish, I release the right paddle and the first gear clutch starts it's normal slipping slightly. Number 1 appears on the dash.

If I am holding the right paddle it will roll if I take my foot off the brake. Once I release the right paddle it will attempt to creep forward.

Given enough time while holding just ONE paddle, the car will drop into D1. It takes a while but happens with either paddle.

Guess I don't wait that long. The Red Lights I have stopped at aren't that long! Frankly don't mind the 1st gear clutch slipping so I often don't wait until the light turns green. What I do by pulling the paddles after it downshifts to 3rd or 2nd is avoid having it decide if I'm just slowing or stopping! I know I'm stopping! As Tadge said that minor slipping has no ill effect on clutch life. Once stopped no big deal letting it go into 1st by releasing the Upshift paddle.

PS: Just found out why my C8 shut off when I was showing the car to a friend who was asking a lot of questions as I opened the Frunk and Trunk with it running and it shut off! Yep after 15 minutes with the FOB outside the car (as mine was in my pocket) it shuts off. If the FOB was in the car it would wait 30 minutes. It was pointed out that is in the Owner's Manual!
