As I recall, that "foolish wording" was not actually in the Owners' Manual, right? It was some sort of advertisement or extra statement about the free service that said that. I have seen it posted, by you I think.
The other procedure, called "Hydraulic System Flush" does appear as step 1 in the procedure to replace the DCT external cansiter filter. It is a computer manipulation of the valves, with the car running, wheels on the ground, with a goal of moving any debris in the valves or lines to the external canister filter before it is replaced. The Hydraulic System Flush procedure may also be called for in response to various DTCs as well.
Finally talked to a tech at Midway and yes they do the Hyd flush prior to changing the filter...the Super had no idea and that, I suspect, is where the confusion lay. The Sands Chevy super was clueless too but I'll call the tech there tomorrow as it is a closer Chevy dealer...
Thats good to hear. And a perfect example of the importance of referring to the procedure by its full name - Hydraulic System Flush and not just "flush", or even "Hyd flush". If the correct name is used, it will correspond to the exact wording that the tech will find in the Scan Tool, and also in the Service Manual if they bother to look it up. There are lots of other procedures in the manual that have flush in their name. There's coolant flushing, there is Hydraulic Brake System Flushing, Flushing of the refrigerant system, and so on. There is only one procedure associated with the transmission, and that is the Hydraulic System Flush. I would not expect a service manager to necessarily be aware of the details in a procedure. We're lucky if they even know the basic requirements for changing the oil, the filter, and the DCT filter, and the DCT fluid.
My Pic file. It's old don't recall the source. Josh Holder was justifying (so you could do both at the same time.) Fits cars in general BUT not Vettes where the average annual miles is <<7500. No doubt in other pubs.
Also, why whoever wrote it only had the FREE service initially for 1 year max!
