I just changed my filter and trans fluid and it took only 8 quarts before overflowing. Manual states it takes 11.62 quarts. The car is level on a lift. I know I should run the transmission through a cycle before the final fill but I had the impression it would only take a little more. I don't want to run it through a cycle on 8 quarts unless this is normal when refilling. Anyone have experience replacing the fluid that could give me some indication of whether 8 quarts is enough on the "first fill"? would running it for 5 min on the lift hurt the trans?
DCT Transmission Fill Procedure:
1-Remove Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side)
2-Determine the approximate amount of fluid needed to fill the transmission. (11.62 quarts).
3-A clean funnel and/or hose must be used when filling the transmission with fluid.
4-Fill transmission with fluid until fluid level is at the bottom edge of the filler opening.
5-Install Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side).
6-Run vehicle for 3 to 5 minutes while selecting drive and reverse to fill the clutch circuits. To properly fill the circuits place foot on brake, shift into drive for 30 to 45 seconds then shift into reverse for 30 to 45 seconds then repeat.
7-Stop the engine and perform the following actions within 5 minutes after stopping the engine.
8-Remove Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side) and verify level is at the bottom edge of the fill opening. If not, add additional fluid until the fluid is at the bottom edge of fill plug.
9-Install Transmission Oil Filler Plug.
I decided to add a total of 13.62 quarts from the top fill point as I wanted the "track fill" anyway. It took it all and its the correct amount according to the specifications.
Are you sure you got a total complete drain? Did you measure what drained out?
A "normal" automatic transmission will hold a lot of fluid in the lines, etc. and you can only typically get about half the capacity out doing a simple drain & fill. I would trust the standard fill hole after running the engine and cycling through the gears, then top off with the extra 2 quart track-fill after that.

I changed my dct fluid at 4200 miles. Glad i did. Filter was very. Dirty, and in the grand scheme of things, having clean fluid won’t hurt anything. I’m going to change it around every 4K miles, judging by the look of the filter and fluid. 45000miles…. Yea right.

C5racr1, After you drained it how much DCT fluid did you add when you refilled the Transmission? Did you add the extra 2 quarts?
I didn't measure the oil that was drained - too late its in my bulk used oil container. I did the fluid change with the filter as I have over dozen hours of track time and it was due for the filter anyway. I let it drain for an hour and it was level. I did the procedure according to the instructions except that I filled the trans from the top with the 13.6 quarts. I did not want to risk running through the gears with insufficient fluid so I chose to fill the correct quantity including track fill from the top fill plug. I did an evening track event (approx. 1 of hour track time) since I changed the filter and fluid. without incident, trans temp was normal, no messages leaks etc. If it is supposed to take less fluid then why wouldn't that be specified instead of the 11.62? What is the risk of any problems occurring if over filled? Wouldn't it just blow out the vent tube? I would be interested to know if anyone changed the fluid and after running through the gears as per the instructions got it to add an extra 3 quarts approx. to the fill line.
So i made a filler tube with a 1 way valve. It uses the regular filler hole but i can pump 13.68 into the trans without taking the air box. Dodson sells the hose, they were out of stock so i just made one. I didn’t measure how much came out but i let it remain till it stopped. Put 13.68 back in, cycled the D And R several times to make sure the circuits were filled, and did a test drive. All good. Trans did shift smoother, probably cause the filter was absolutely filthy! Pro7going to do a trans fluid and filter change at 5k miles. Cheap insurance.
You changed the DCT fluid already? The first DCT fluid change is indicated at 45,000 miles. How many miles do you have on your C8?
From the track guide:
DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION FLUID
Transmission fluid and external filter should be changed after every 24 hours of track usage. If prompted by the transmission fluid life monitor that remaining fluid life is low, the fluid and filter should be changed as soon as possible.Add an additional 2 qt (2 L) of DCT transmission fluid prior to track usage. It is not required to remove the additional 2 qt (2 L) of DCT fluid.Any transmission level set or change should be performed at your dealer. The transmission fluid used in the dual clutch transmission is a specific transmission fluid. Use of unapproved fluid may cause damage to the transmission. See your dealer for the proper transmission fluid.
Avoid over fill/under fill.
post #4 above, step 8. 8-Remove Transmission Oil Filler Plug (side) and verify level is at the bottom edge of the fill opening. If not, add additional fluid until the fluid is at the bottom edge of fill plug.

I really think you've run the risk of overfilling the DCT by 2 or 3 liters if you put in 13+. The DCT will hold 2+ liters even when drained. If it were me, I'd drain it, fill until it just starts coming out, run it per the above mentioned instructions, top off and then add the extra 2 liters. The 11.62 is the fill on a completely dry/empty DCT.

^^^Exactly - I'd be very worried that I had overfilled it.
Are we supposed to get the first oil change and DTC cannister filter change free from GM at \ before a certain mileage \ time frame?
Just to be clear, the first oil change needs to be at 7500 miles, or 1 year, or when the oil life monitor says so. The DCT cansister filter needs to be replaced at or near 7500 miles. These requirements must be followed regardless of whether they are performed as part of the "free service" or at your expense. The "free" service which included the oil change and DCT filter replacement expires after 2 years. There is no stated mileage for expiration of the free service, only time.

As per usual.... Andybump has provided an accurate and complete answer!
