Got home today. Just as I parked I saw a notice for a software update. Unfortunately I shut the car off and missed the update. Now when I try to get updates it tells me the car is in a state where I cannot get updates. How do I get the update and what is this state the car is in? Anyone? Car seems just fine
I haven't figured this out either. It said it had an update, but when I manually try to get the update, it said no updates available. I decided not to worry about it. A couple weeks later it put the update in.
Take it to the dealer instead of trying to figure it out. That's what I did. Initially the updates kept popping up. Let them do it with their laptop. Peace of mind.
I have two updates needed that can’t be done OTA. But dealer wants me to drop off car for a week for something that takes 10 minutes with a laptop. So I’m trying to work with them one that bull.
Well I think I definitely figured out my issue. After doing some digging the most common cause of software updates not being able to be applied is that the battery is not at least 70% charged. Apparently I’m not driving the car enough to keep it at 70% because I connected the battery tender to the car for about 5 hours, just walked out to the garage, turned on the car and it prompted me to apply the update whereas before it would tell me the car was not in a state where the update could be applied. When I read the documentation from GM it’s clear that this is the most common cause of the error message. I guess topping off the battery with the GM battery tender was is the ticket. I hope this helps others.
