Default Break-in Question

I have a 2022 Z51 delivery Feb 2022, I have followed break-in, oil level is full, and no indication of service required.

However, I have 3400 miles on the car, and the yellow tell-tale on the tach is still at 5,500 RPM... I'm assuming the computer sets this based on use, revs, load, etc, to determine when the engine is fully broken in... I'm OK with that, but assumed that is should be broken in by now...

Certainly my use of the car is mostly local driving, and long road trips, so I have not put alot of full-throttle load on the engine, as it is very easy to exceed 5.550 rpm....

Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks

Check the redline after the car warms up ( I believe the threshold is 156°F ). at which point the redline should max out.

You're likely looking at the yellow not the redline. I cant believe at 5k miles you're talking about the reduced redline that only happens until the car is warm.

Hah Hah... the owner's manual... 336 pages of useless information...

Yes, the redline shows at 6500... so I'm good to go, correct?...

Next question... why the Yellow and Orange zones?... can I make them go away?... they provide no useful information... Is this like... "Yes Junior, you can go past the Yellow, to Redline, but if Mommy finds out, you won't get your lolly..."

I'm new to this car, and remember when the "Redline". was actually just a Red Line.... not a lecture on etiquette.

So, actually you are raising what turns out to be a pretty good question. Everyone thinks they know that the red part is the "true" red line, and those yellow and orange regions mean....what. nothing? I thought so too. But I searched the 2023 Owners Manual expecting to find an explanation of the colors, the red line, and so on. I could not find any mention of a "red line" or 'redline". I found one warning. It says "If the engine is operated with the rpm in the warning area at the high end of the tachometer, the vehicle could be damaged, and the damage would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. Do not operate the engine with the rpm in the warning area." So, what is the definition of "the warning area"? I searched for other instances of "warning area" and found none. There is no explanation of the colors that I could find. I'm sure most will say the warning area must mean the red region - not the yellow and orange - but I can't find anything that says so.

Here's my takeaway... Redline is 6.500

DCT will automatically shift to prevent 'over-rev"... so how can you "over-rev" the engine?

The Yellow and Orange areas are Persiflage perpetrated by some Marketing Guy to make the DCT more Dramatic, and as soon as THE HURRICANE subsides, I'm going out on Rt 1 and FLAT-FOOT this sucker...

However, page 279 Subsection a.1 in the manual says... "CAUTION... FLATFOOTING THIS SUCKER on RT 1 IN THE WAKE OF A HURRICANE MAY JEOPARDIZE WARRANTY COVERAGE... "

Should I be worried?

The LT2 redline is 6500 RPM. I believe the rev limiter fuel cutoff is 6600 RPM. The computer will let you bounce off the rev limiter in full manual mode. Perhaps the warning is for keeping the car floored and bouncing off the rev limiter.
Having a yellow warning zone is nothing new. Many old school cars without a rev limiter had a yellow zone on the tach to give you a quick reference if you are approaching the redline.
The yellow zone coming and going may have something to do with the engine operating temperature.

Maybe so, but the marketing guy that came up with that idea is long gone. My 60 vette tachometer uses colors. I think the colors on mine are faded. The part that looks orange in the photo I attached is red in the reproductions. I should add, this is for the 283 small block, with the single 4 barrel carburetor. The "base" engine for that year.

When the needle went straight, you hit the gear... simple, analog, old school...

Generally when you are racing the yellow light is there to make you aware that you are approaching red line without taking your eyes off the track. This has found it's way into tachometers of cars that are meant to be driven on the track to give them a more racecar feel I guess.
