2022 C8. When I am driving the voltage gauge shows 12.5 volts. Every few miles the gauge jumps to 13 volts for a second. sometimes it jumps to 14 volts for a second. Is the voltage regulator working correctly? I pointed this out to the service tech and he said this is normal.. Doesn't seem normal to me as my other Chevy vehicles dial indicates 14 steadily.
Normal on modern GM vehicles. The voltage is regulated based on battery state and electrical demand. This puts less load on your engine thereby saving gas.
Normal. A while back I reviewed the Service Manual description of the charging modes. There are 5 different charging modes depending on various conditions. Each will have a different range of generator output voltages. Those generator output voltages are what you will be reading when the car is running. I made a graphic illustrations of the voltage ranges for each mode that you may find interesting.
Keeping all this in mind, does the C8 charging system maintain the battery voltage at a fully charged state? I have taken my C8's battery voltage readings and it seems that even after driving or other times when one would expect to see about 12.5 volts, the actual voltage is less. The charging system is very similar to the C7's; it does not hold the battery at max charge. You will have no problem getting 4-5+ years out of a properly maintained factory ACDelco battery.
