My concern is this stuff separating and finding its way inside my engine. Mine is new btw. I will contact the seller today. Man, quality control has fallen off so much nowadays!!
A couple of passes with a small ball hone in each port, clean up the intake opening with a cylinder hone, and charge $300 or more in less than an hour. Just clean up the edges to smooth. Helps to see a finished intake to understand what to do.
Those look like aggressive porting. I don't have any pictures but mine was slightly ported by a local shop that had experience with porting. If any of you guys need another manifold to be re-ported just PM me. I still have my OEM one in box.
Yours does look a bit better but the runners don't look smooth at all
The runners are very smooth, running my finger over them was night & day vs. my stock manifold. No edges or rough spots. I'd agree that the work he did on yours vs. mine was definitely subpar.
I've been working with ported manifolds/housings of all types of material from numerous different vendors (including some self DIY jobs) for 16 years now, and the aftermarket in general for about 3 decades, and I do still stand by my comments in the link above. Sometimes it tough to judge port work from pictures alone.
That looks fine to me. The more you port the throat of the intake, the more the seams are gonna show. I used a digital caliper to measure the backside of my ported 95 throttle body and then grinded away to match it on the intake side. The bottom of the IM neck doesn't have as much material as the top so I used epoxy on the outside to bolster the integrity. It gets super thin.
The digital caliper also comes in handy to pseudo port match the intake runners to the heads. I found the runners needed a lot of massaging and really concentrate on the short turn too.
So I did receive a call and text from the seller. He said “The epoxy is standard when porting.” He stated the porting is aggressive and the epoxy is required in the thin areas. He assured me I would be fine running this intake with no problems. I will post results after I have a chance to track my car with the headers.
thanks to everyone for your input and hopefully my results will be positive !
