Now the hardest part is going to be getting them.

I spoke with a dealership in Germany this morning and they have stated that they are unable to even order these parts.

I'm going to keep after this but if not I am considering having one of the machine shops I use make them for us in the United States.

Just need a pattern, and plasma table. Would use stainless steel instead of aluminum. Good luck on your project.

Why dont we just 3D print some? thats how i made my hatch scoop, and that was way more elaborate than these things...

whoops... looks like c5racr1 beat me to the punch.

I do not have a 3d printer, LOL. Sounds like a great idea.

Pulled this pic from the ACS intake port product page. Am I seeing the bottom opening of that back glass correctly? Could help in your search for a cooling solution to a problem that does exist. Couldn't find it listed on ACS's website but it may be coming.

I don't see mine go that high.

If I did I'd look into header wrapping BOTH the exhaust tubes that run under the intake as well as the plastic intake tubes and then gold foil the box.

I'd take telemetry again and see where it's at.

With drawing in air from the engine cover only netting a few degrees id wonder if it's an issue of venting the entire engine compartment as opposed to just the intake tube positions.

This is an interesting post on cars sold in Germany for sustained high speed driving....

This part looks like it could provide a cheap path towards lowering the temperatures. I have an open case on this overheat problem with extended high speed driving with GM quality and Josh Holder.
I need to approach him/them about this and see if this part has been tested as real solution.
It looks pretty good at first glance.
BTW I have two 3D printers. The normal plastic print material is PLA or PETG. Neither material would tolerate any high temperatures without warpping badly.

Yes I was thinking there was a reason they made it out of aluminum.

This would have to be extremely thick and made out of some type of phenolic material I would imagine in order to hold up to the heat but I'm not a material scientist.

If you can bring this up to general motors regarding your claim it would be pretty damn cool if you could get them to send you a set and if you can get them to send you a set please let me know because I will pay to rent them from you so that I can have them duplicated because it's going to be a true pain in the *** to get these to be sold.

FWIW, lots of 3D metal parts are being made. Aluminum, Stainless and other metals. Additive Manufacturing is getting to be a big deal in our field. Saw a large prototype bronze propeller being made with a MIG welding robot at a recent tech meeting.

Our local Tech College has a faculty to encourage start-up businesses in the area. I have toured several times with our Welding Advisory Committee (they have ~125 welding students.) Saw metal 3D parts protype parts being made for NASCAR. There are a number of job shops with this technology, search for one close to where you are located.

3D printing is an excellent process for small lot prototyping of parts. Most printers that an individual is likely to own only work with several kinds of plastic filament. I have made many parts for my car in a variety of colors. The printers that JerryU describes are truly amazing in what they can print. Again, it is mostly for small prototype lots and most are out of reach for an individual for now. Aluminum prints are becoming common. There are high temperature plastics that are restricted to most users because they could be used to make sort of real guns. But he is very correct that is the way of the future. In a few years when you go into an Autozone store for a water pump, they may just print you one while you wait.

But right now, I would like to get a better look at this GM part. However you make it, you need a pattern to start with. I am pretty good with most body shop tools and metal fabrication. If I can't buy the parts, they look like something I could duplicate without too much effort.

I haven't heard much lately from the GM guys on my case. They were very easy to talk to and seemed genuinely helpful. I think they know there is a problem that is causing a power reduction in high-speed events with elevated temperatures. But they are not sharing that with me. And it only affects a tiny percentage of the C8 owners that push their cars really hard. I think it may be like complaining that your speedometer is off by 2 mph at 160 mph.

Hmm, that is what Tadge discussed they did to try to get some "good" sucking sound intake closer to your ear. I looked for and found what he mentioned when I installed a low restriction air filter. See pics:

Looked for the air passages to the C8 air filter. Used my flexible fiberoptics camera down the tubes that go from the OUM air filter box to the fenders. As Tadge described they installed a baffle that directed cool air from the top of the side air scoops to the air filter.

The passage uses the car rear fenders to flow the cold air.

Understand the desire to keep engine compartment cool BUT the real performance issue is keeping the intake air cool! I had looked at the K&N system that took air from the Truck. As someone mentioned it has a tube instead of the C8 air filter box that is in the engine compartment. And it is above the hot exhaust! First with ~700 cubic feet of air flowing (@ WOT) in that tube, transferring heat to the intake air charge takes time! But not having the temp data you could easily add quality insulation (happen to have pic of the DEI insulating material I use on my 8.2 liter BB geared started that is very close to the long tube headers in my Street Rod, so show it.) The K&N system does not have a way to get cold air into the Truck BUT several ways that can be done. One, like the standard system from the rear fenders. As Racer X also said this is a just a more productive thought for avid Trackers or racers than just making the engine compartment cooler.

where do you think the stock housing gets air from? Have you opened yours up? I have. Openings go to the side vents.

Like the under tray piece that draws in air.

like the ACS composite rear glass that has opening at trailing edge.
