Odd chirp noise or normal?
I am in the UK with RHD 3LT spec HTC 2023 car. Only mod is Borla ATAK. 13k miles and had the car for a year from new.
I have had this soft chirp sort of trickling noise as per the videos for some months now or as long as I can remember. I can only apologise as it is very tough to record it, hope it’s audible.
Some info:
- Typically hear it when the car is cold and I drive without warming it as much, usually goes away after 30-45 min of normal driving or very faint. It also goes away after 5-10min of very spirited driving.
- Can’t hear it when doing any sort of normal driving cold or hot engine wise apart from when I am juuust applying a bit of gas to start moving. For instance going through a drive thru from car to car and it’s audible mostly because it’s up against the building walls.
- I can’t hear it at all when on idle and can’t hear it when reving either very slowly applying gas or pushing it down hard.
Not sure if it’s just normal (which is fine if it is) or an issue. I don’t have any other C8s around to reference with. The only corvette repair place I trust is 4 hours away, From what they can gather they think it’s not anything to worry about. At times I brought the car to them even recently we didn’t pay attention to it and I did forget to check it with them. This has been happening as long as I can remember so not sure what to make of it. Hasn’t gotten worse or better as such, whenever it happens.
Here are the links to the videos, hope they work:

calling me an idiot and hypochondriac is also an acceptable reply

Thanks for checking
I watched the video and yes, my 24 does this, always. I think you're right, it is only around startup. But I tend to ignore it. It happens at crank and as you pull away.
Funny thing is that, a few years ago, I rented a C7. It made the exact same squeaks at the same times. So when I got this car and heard it. I just figured it is normal enough. Not sure if it really is a good thing though because I have no idea what it is. I haven't heard the squeak from other small block chevy motor such as the trucks.
I wonder if there's some insider Corvette knowledge that someone has about this.
BTW, might help to put the video on YouTube
If I could take a guess it is serpentine belt squeak. It even disappears like serpentine belt squeak. But why would it happen on new cars? Not sure.
I find it weird it’s only just us two that experience or perhaps care to notice it? Maybe it’s indeed considered normal?
I opened the back to try and get a better idea of the source, it is actually coming out from near the air filter & exhaust side of the engine bay and not the belt side. I mean it is tough to tell as sound does travel in weird ways, but doesn’t seem to be the belt side. I couldn’t access to spray it a bit to check either.
Anyway, I got it on YouTube as suggested:
would appreciate it if anyone else can weigh in.
again, if it is considered normal then I am happy to live with it, just curious as there is little to no reference to try and compare it with. Best I could do is listen to some videos where some C8s are just about to start on a dyno and I can’t hear it there 😬
Thanks again,

I consider myself a very mechanically minded person. I tend to listen to the different noises of any machine. Because if you know what they sound like when they are working normally, you can listen to them and they will let you know when they aren't so happy.

So it isn't new. But still no idea the actual determination.
If I had easy access to the belt, I would put on one of the Gatorback belts. Those are pretty cool and would let you know immediately if it was the belt squeaking.
During this initial warmup phase, I hear it when I reverse down the driveway. But the next time I notice it is a little down the street, I think when it goes into V4 mode for the first time.
It seems to occur around the same time as the swoosh noise that was talked about in another AFM thread.
