Default Head, Cam, E85 Track Build

After a month of getting back and feeling out my car. Here it is. Vengeance Racing build. Last Oct. I lost my rear main seal at the track and immediately contacted my friend Andrew at VR to dive into this issue and why not take the time to just drop the motor and address a few factors and weak links. With the current developments it was good timing.

They obviously couldn’t baseline the car due to the rear main seal leak. The C8 typically makes around 420-430whp on their Dyno. Ended up with 530whp/480wtq. This is with stock headers if that even makes a difference or not. I had an issues with getting headers that I’m not going into. Plan to do something exciting in that department. I’m not here to discuss semantics about Dyno numbers and corrections. If you don’t know the differences by now you’re just behind. It’s a tuning tool and nothing else. For what it’s worth some timing was pulled out for the track to help ensure some more reliability it will see. With the road race nature it was more importantly to make great power gains in the mid range of the RPM band and to increase throttle response.

Here are the basic mods for this build. I have more details in my signature and other details is just to much to list but important also. You have to understand that heads, cam, and others is just basics. There’s many factors that were addressed and buttoned up that most don’t see beyond. Plus a few extra I added for a peace of mind.

-Vengeance Racing LT Valve Cover Package

-Vengeance Racing CNC Ported LT2 Cylinder Heads

-Vengeance Racing Cam Kit Plus With Stage 2 Cam

-LT2 Billet Camshaft Gear

-VR Spec Vibrant Catch Can

-DSX E85 Flex Fuel Sensor Kit

-HP Tuners ECU Software

-ECU Calibration via Elite Tuned

In my own words from the knowledge I gained from a few sources that shouldn’t be questioned. My rear seal failure was pretty much the cause from not running catch can for so long while tracking and GM’s design within the motor doesn’t allow it to breath efficiently upon constant acceleration and deceleration. We addressed this issue in a few ways and parts. If you have a short block built there’s another fix within that area also. Gone is the AFM garbage.

Yes having more power is always great. The tune in itself really makes this car so complete. I can’t say enough. So much more across the board. The acceleration across the whole range just pulls and never falls off. It’s as it almost had a different gear. I want others to drive just to feel. Forget about numbers, cost, and so on. It’s an absolute thrill to drive. No matter what traffic you’re in, it just performs. Just eliminating the low timing tables that were set in place. Car itself is officially at 3354 lbs with 3/4 tank.

Love that catch can. Well needed for track use and E85.

The rear bay will still be worked on for simplicity, appearance, and function. For it has absolutely no heat issues on any level with 40 minutes session. Wild as it may seem there was a lot that was thought out over time to get it where it’s at just to see what the next plan going to be. Will be adding a more direct cooler air intake made from 3D printer sourcing air other than the sides. For now the intake temps are great and consistent no matter what the heat soak is. Then will be summed up with a true tube frame in the rear with quick removal of all panels. You know, because race car.

Dyno
Plan to load some more video soon in a few scenarios.

More Madness

Leak. Glad it didn’t get on the tires that day.

Catch can drain. Top left of the pic is filter form EVAP delete.

Killing it.

I really appreciate that coming from you. I like how you think. I want it at that weight. I said I wouldn’t compromise the interior more than the seats, harness and bar. I do have a polycarbonate rear window that was half the weight of glass. So 4lbs. A lot in the hatch itself and that’s where I want to work. It needs to come off the rear more. The rear bumper is crazy heavy more so the tail lights. I don’t get that. When I get to tubing the rear frame it will do some good on several levels. I want to bump safety and structure up more.

I’ve had to replace the windshield twice. I have pull off on it now. But next time that’s going poly.

Yes I still drive on the street at least once every week and plan to more. I have right at 12K miles total and roughly 4K track miles. It’s been good to me. I know how to take care of it.

That car has to be a neck breaker with that kind of power. Nice solid horsepower with that HP Tune.

The real neck breaker is the AP Brakes with Ferodo 3.12 pads. Where have I been without these. Serious pad. I’m hooked.

This is awesome. Wasted no time turning it into a perfect road course build with enough power and weight reduction to hurt some feelings.

Is it still at stock redline since there's no TCM tuning yet?

I love the mad insanity, actual well thought out practicality, of your build! Some of us aren't that brave, you deserve all the success you can get, good luck!

Thank you much. It needed something up top. I’ve had some sad moments on long straights.

The red line was bumped to 6800 now. That’s all that can be done. I’m interested in the TCM and what it may offer. See how it all communicates and maybe delete some more codes on top of the ones we already did for simplicity.

Means a lot. Thank you. Pretty much the same way everyone at VR was. They love these kinds of builds. My wife about fell out when I got into it.

Nice job !! Would you mind saying at what rpm you make peak power ? I'm leaning towards the carbon intake manifold but the price is steep.

Thank you. I will get the info on Monday. It was brought at one point in time but so many things going on at that time. I have everything on a flash drive I haven’t picked up yet. Plus I need to get my RTD for logging.
