Default Exhaust mods c8z

Thinking about some high flow cats to start off with my c8z, trying to figure out why some of them are $2500 while others are $5k when the guys selling the $2500 cats are claiming they’re coming from the same supplier.

Any consumers out there that have already bought themselves some high flow cats and can comment on the sound/performance and if they were happy with the purchase.

Any vendors care to explain the price differences?

thanks,
Bruce

We sell both Corsa and Soul Performance.

Both don't have any issues or CEL. Soul comes with heat shields where Corsa you have to add them separately. We feel like a lot of our clients are buying the Corsa sport cats either with a Corsa exhaust. People that buy Soul or doing Soul with a soul exhaust or with a stock exhaust.

Couldn't tell you the specific power differences aside whats listed on their site but thats just our experience.

It's all about the cat core used. North American GESi G-Sport GEN2 S-Wound 400-cell vs. German HJS 200-cell. HJS is is European emissions approved while GESi is EPA 49-state compliant.

HJS: FabSpeed & Soul
GESi: Corsa, Kooks, Cicio, Paragon, aFe, etc.

===========================
This is Joe Fabiani the president and founder of Fabspeed Motorsport USA. I will explain the criteria for designing, engineering and the goals of real true High Flow catalytic converters. This should shed some light about the intricacies and wide ranging cost of various brands of catalytic converters. Fabspeed Motorsport USA has been in business for 30 years designing, engineering, dyno developing, street and race track testing exhaust and intake systems for Porsche, Ferrari, Mclaren, Lamborghini, Corvette C8 & C8Z06 , Mercedes AMG, and BMW M cars.
Fabspeed Motorsport USA is the exclusive importer distributor of HJS German Emitec highflow racing catalytic converters. Go to any professional sports car racing event like the IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona, WEC race and this weekends LeMans 24 hour endurance race and all the factory European racing teams as mentioned above are racing cars equipped with Emitec HJS certified Homologated tri-metallic cores.

High Flow Racing Catalytic converters were developed for maximizing performance via reduced back pressure and by increased exhaust flow, High flow catalytic converters also given increased exhaust flow thereby enhance sports car sound. High flow catalytic converters should be dyno developed, should be thoroughly and truly endurance race tested and properly sized and properly precious metal coated . If all of the above engineering objectives are accomplished the High-Flow catalytic converters will be EPA Compliant and NOT set off check engine lights for catalyst efficiency below threshold. Super quality high performance catalytic converters are not all the same and exchangeable and a low priced commodity.

Here are the factors that any Sportscar buyer especially C8, C8Z06, Ferrari, Mclaren , Lamborghini, Porsche and any super high horsepower sports car , SUV enthusiasts should specifically ask for and validate when interested in purchasing true high-flow racing catalytic converters . Caveat Emptor- buyer beware-

1. Engine power stock and power tuned- Size is the most important factor. Super high horsepower engines require large diameter catalytic converters with large surface area to maximize exhaust flow. It’s a sliding scale and the Rule of thumb is the larger the better as power output climbs. HJS Germany has 6” cats that Pagani and Koe****eeg utilize of 2000HP + cars as does Gordon Murray T50 950HP NA street cars. Fabspeed for decades oversized HJS German cats so buyers get maximum reliable performance and value.

2. Cell count- 200 cell per inch , 200 CPSI, is the optimal cell count per inch for maximum power , durability and sports car sound. HJS trimetallic cats are heavily precious metal loaded with platinum, palladium and Rhodium and are anutobahn and racetrack endurance tested . HJS typically flows 90 to 92% of a straight pipe when sized correctly. OEM cats are typically 600 to 700+ cells per inch. WHY? Because the higher denser cell count per inch allows OEMs to develop a significantly cheaper catalytic converter and given the dense cell count and therefore much higher surface contact area for “catalytic action or scrubbing” significantly less precious metals is required for the wash coating. Rhodium ranges in price from $14,000 to $20K per Troy ounce. Gold is like copper versus Rhodium. Trimetallic noble heavy metal wash coating - Platinum , Palladium and Rhodium in heavy amounts bonded to the spiral metal foils of Emitec HJS cats.

3) Matrix or brick- ceramic cordite material and or stainless steel foil Inconel 625 foil brazed and crimped. Typically triwound spiral HJS foil HD catalytic converters are state of the art durable proven construction and flow a lot more than a ceramic core given the same size.

Bottom line, HJS German Emitec highflow racing catalytic converters are very very expensive and imported from Germany and not simply substitutable with other so called highflow racing cats. These are expensive racing components that are airshipped into the USA by Fabspeed and USA customs and duty are paid. Fabspeed engineering actively consults with HJS emissions on new car development and HJS knows what the factory European road racing teams are utilizing and winning and Fabspeed employs this data to develop C8 and Z06 cats and other state of the art sports car systems.

With a properly engineered HJS German high-flow catalytic converter Fabspeed has NOT seen any more horsepower nor torque on late model Porsche Twin Turbos like the 992 TT S / 991.2 GT2RS 710HP , McLaren 765LT, Ferrari Pista 710HP and C8Z06 versus a set of Illegal catbypass pipes. In fact a dyno testing shows that HJS EPA compliant European certified European homologated cats make more horsepower and torque than catbypass pipes . Furthermore, still even more power with HJS cats versus CB pipes when TUNED and or aftermarket bigger billet turbos were added and tuned. HJS Emitec cats are state of the art high flow racing components that work but are actually expensive.

Most of the other cats Im seeing are 400 cells per inch , 400 CPSI, and often without mentioning names very very small in diameter and will not support high horsepower engines and typically choke the engines breathing even if the car sounds better.

A rise in cat cell count from 200 CPSI to 400 CPSI is double the cell count per inch and therefore doubles the backpressure and flow restriction if size stays constant. Like I mentioned above “true high performance high-flow racing catalytic converters “ are not substitutable generic performance parts. Sure anyone can post and have an opinion and any website can boast and brag about their parts but ask questions and look into it further than price. Beware of NO NAME no part number non certified non homolgated cats being imported from Taiwan, China and other parts of the world and marketed on websites as the Same as Fabspeed and wonderful. Before you BUY ask for a factory Video tour and suppliers name of their catalytic converter cores and and also the brand of exhaust valves on their valvetronic C8, C8Z06 exhaust and other exhaust systems. Caveat Emptor- buyer beware !

HJS Emitec prices Euros FOB Germany then add air shipping and US customs duty

HJS cats for C8 enthusiasts . 100% designed and manufactured atFabspeed. FLOW Waterjet cut and HAAS CNC machined flanges , HJS larger Euro 6 cores and laser welded .

Joe, thank you for the extensive write up, truly appreciate you taking the time to explain. My biggest concern at this point is getting a CEL.

Have there been any instances or customers that have come back to you with a CEL on a c8 z06 with your cats? Is there a guarantee of no CEL?

Every brand of aftermarket cats for the c8 zo6 have produced a cel at one point or another.
Some are cleared and never return and others keep popping up every x amount of miles.
No one can guarantee no cel

It’s Joe at Fabspeed Motorsport USA. 99% of the time Fabspeed Motorsport HJS GERMAN imported ECE certified E5/E6 wash coated Emitec catalytic converters do not cause check engine lights for catalyst efficiency on multiple late model exotic cars in 200 cell ultra highflow IMSA WEC as racing components .

There is a lot of misinformation as I mentioned above and HIGH-FLOW racing cats are NOT simply interchangeable and “all the same “ and price should be the very last criteria.

ITS an absolute DISGRACE and 100% DISHONESTY that 2M FABRICATIONS website cites “same quality same catalytic converters as FABSPEED. Ive seen these LIES before designed to persuade and take consumers $$$ to buy a no-name brand of likely cheap Chinese/ Taiwanese/ Domestic 400 cell cats and buyers naively assume its all the same. That logic is like comparing a C8/ C8Z06 to an old beat up Miata and saying they are both the same 2 seat sports-cars WHY spend more to get 2 people from point A to pint B.

ONLY Fabspeed Motorsport USA is importing genuine HJS German catalytic converters and building C8/C8Z06, Porsche, McLaren , Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes AMG, BMW M high-flow racing cats. Every other company is using alternative lower performance cats and in some situations FALSELY still marketing HJS cats and or similar at high prices,
