I have a 2022 Z51. Got "Rear Axle System Off" message for 3 days last week then engine light came on. Were no issues with any slipping or anything that felt funky. Read some other owners' experiences here on the forum.
Took it to dealership. They contacted GM Technical Assistance Center. They said replace the transmission. I'm under warranty so no argument from me.
GM won't replace a transmission unless the appropriate diagnostics called for by the code have been attempted. So, yeah, I'm thinking the dealer did go through the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Some of the procedures are shorter than others - and get to the "replace the transmission" in less steps than some others. What were the codes?
The diagnostic procedures will be listed with the three failures that are required before warranty replacement on the invoice you will get when you pick the car up after trans replacement. I just went through this last week when they replaced my valve body. They will include all parts needed to complete job and thankfully with $0 behind each. Hang in there, it will be fine.
Did the dealer replace the transmission? I literally was on my way from the DMV completing the registration on my "New to Me" 2020 Stingray and I go the same message "Rear Axle System Off" and the check engine light came on.
I stopped at my local Chevrolet dealership on the way home. They have me set up for an appointment at 0730 tomorrow. Luckily I have the CarGuru warranty.
