Default Which Cam to Buy?

Hi team.
I'm piecing some mods together and I'm looking for a high quality cam to put in my 2023 C8 HTC LT3 non Z51. I already have the Frankenstein M115 235cc Monster series heads. Any recommendations?

Pre Carbon Flash rocker panel install

No specific recommendation but Texas Speed is just up the road from you, I'm sure they could square you away. The frustrating thing about camshaft selection for an LT2 at this point is the TCU is still locked down and the engines can't rev. You could build it now with a cam that gives strong midrange but not much up top and 6 months from now the TCU gets unlocked and you'd wish you could have a do-over because now you can build it to rev to 7100rpm. And it's not like doing a cam on a C8 is anything like the front-engined cars. Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you recommend I wait until im able to get the TCU unlocked before install?

2 years ago, I would've said yes. At this point, I'm not sure if it ever will get unlocked. Personally, if I started a build already, I'd just roll with it. I'm pretty bored with my Stingray and keep telling myself to wait until the TCU is cracked and build a 600hp NA engine that can rev out to 72-7300rpm. Now, the Gen 6 small block is imminent and the factory might well be about to do that for me. With a warranty. So the second-guessing and waiting never ends.

I guess another relevant question here is who is doing your tuning?

By 'tuning' I specifically meant how are they managing the mods? HP Tuners unlocked ECM or a piggyback?

With the Factory powder rods, I'm nervous about them staying together at 7000+. There have been some failures, but I don't know how hard the engines were twisted. The Factory is now installing Forged Steel rods and that's what I would use in an engine build/re-build.
Can any track driver reassure me of the reliability of power rods and high revs?

Not sure yet. I haven’t spoken to my mechanic.

Nobody can answer that because there is no way to get a C8 to rev higher than the factory limit at this time. The TCU won't allow it.

Cam wise you can't do much larger than a low 220 intake duration and it still drive nice. Tuning these when doing a cam is critical to make it perform correctly and drive correctly. Also knowing how to do it correctly in these and paying attention to little items that can cause issues later if you do it wrong is key.

Agreed 100%. lucky6176, you need to get answers on the tuning ASAP before they tear into your car. I'm not familiar with that shop but what you absolutely DO NOT want is a situation where one shop did the mechanical work and the car 'runs' and then another shop with HPTuners capability has to tune it. Many tuners would decline to tune a car they did not do the work to. Even if you can overcome that, any issues are going to quickly devolve into finger-pointing with the mechanic blaming the tuner and vice versa. Not trying to be overly dramatic but do yourself a favor and figure out how this car is going to get tuned before it is torn down.

Could always increase the displacement and do a cam to maintain the stock power range. Of course, install better rods as well.

Really? Which model year Stingray's got the better rods? Very interesting to know!

I believe some of the crate LS & LT engines come with Manely H-beam rods. It might only be the supercharged variants. No production NA vehicle with an LS or LT had forged rods other than the LS7 which had Pankl forged ti rods. All of the original small & big block chevy's had forged steel rods.

LT2s do not have forged rods. Way to spread misinformation.

I remember 6600 is the limit for hydraulic lifters. Maybe that was the old days of LS engines.
Unless there is something new, or you go solid, rpm may be your limiting factor

There are countless LT1s in Camaros and Corvettes revving higher than that.
