The valve body on my trans went out the day after I bought my car. GM replaced the trans with the new model with smaller case. When I got the car back I noticed some fluid on top of the trans. I figured it was just spillage from them filling it. I clean it up with paper towels and Q tips. A month or so later I notice the fluids was back so I pulled the rear trunk out and found two spots that had fluid cleaned them thoroughly and about a month later the fluid is back. I have circled a spot that looks like a fastener or plug could be and I’m wondering if that’s the culprit.
That cylindrical shaped thing on the top of your picture is the breather of this transmission. Could it be coming from there? On my '23 Z51, I never had issues with transmission, but I had that residue right in there. I looked around and did not see any obvious source, but it was next to that breather, so it might be coming from there.. I also cleaned it up a few times, and it came back.

That leak is also right next to the transmission fluid cooler - its a heat exchanger and tranmission fluid flow into and out of it via ports on the top of the transmission. Engine coolant also flows through it. They probably removed your original transmission cooler and re mounted it on the new transmission. There are seals there. Perhaps that is the source of the leak. You will need to have the dealer check it out.

Thank you for the diagram. I checked the fittings and all around the cooler. That was my first thought but I don't see any residue around it. If the first commenter is correct about the breather port I'm willing to bet that is the culprit.
The breather is completely dry no residue. Did notice some fluid on the driver's side of the trans as well along with a bolt missing from a heatshield. Guess I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow.

Yes. Regarding fluid coming from the vent tube - the Transmission Fluid Condition and Level Check Procedure says this:
"An over-filled transmission will cause fluid to discharge out the vent tube"
I would not have expected that to be the case normally. Possibly with a track fill though. That statement appears in the level check procedure which is strictly for the non-track fill. You don't have a track fill do you? You mentioned having the later (latest?) transmission case. That case does not require a track fill even for track use.

correct I have the updated trans in my 22 that only holds 10qts of fluid. I don't baby the car though. It frequently sees .6 - 1.0 lateral Gs on back road twisties and w/e G's its capable at WOT or just getting into the ABS. I've never seen it over temp though so that is good!
