Default Track preparation

I have a '22 with a Z51 package. I am going to track it but not push too hard as I have some experience with how hard tracking can be on a car. Other than racing brake fluid what should I do to the car to make it track ready?

I’d consult the track prep guide for a complete set of recommendations. Rear brake ducts and brake fluid at a minimum. Depending on how many events you intend to do I’d do the track alignment. You’ll eat tires if you don’t and push it. I did the track alignment but with 0 toe front and back. No abnormal wear on the street.

I find that the oem pads work very well on the track. No need to change in my opinion.

You should have received on with the car.
Next, your 2022 Owner Manual has a Track Events and Competitive driving section starting on page 177, through 183 that appears to cover most of what is in the Track Preparation Guide.
And, you can download a copy of the Track Prep guide here:
https://www.gmspecialtyvehicles.com/...0%99s%20Manual.

They wouldn’t cut it at my home track (road America), not even close.

Makes sense. The tracks local to me aren’t hard on brakes by any means.

I wish more people here would be careful about the blanket statements they make when others are asking questions.

The OEM pads are HORRIBLE for repeated 130 -> 50 MPH stopping on my local track. Your track might not require such brake events, so your comment while accurate for your situation may not be suitable for the person asking the question.

I swapped out the stock pads and went with Carbotech XP 10. I was able to drop 4 seconds on an 11 turn 2.21 mile track by swapping out the pads! The reality for me was the stock pads would be done after 2 hard laps, and at the point my tires had just warmed up and I was ready to push it to the limit. I swapped pads and the brakes have ZERO issues and repeated 130 -> 50 brake events are a non issue. The rest of the turns are ~100 - 105 entry so only Turn 11 was an issue and the brakes wouldn't recover before I hit Turn 1 at 110 and needed to get down to 60.

Add 2 quarts of transmission fluid. This is an absolute must for cars pre-mid 2023 to avoid transmission damage or failure.

Certainly true in your case. The OP indicated he wasn’t going to push the the car on the track so my comment on the brake pads. We only have one high speed braking zone on the tracks around me (Lime Rock, Palmer, Thompson) so I don’t lose breaks during events. My Ron Fellows Level 2 experience indicates no issues with losing brakes during those two days of thrashing. I will certainly look into other brake pads for the track. I can buy lightly used OEM pads on here relatively cheaply and don’t mind replacing as necessary. But your comments are correct, should have qualified my recommendation on oem pads.
