Default Odd DCM codes & battery failure

My car made first day of the 22 model year in fall 2021. While in for an oil change back in May 2022 Chevy dealership thought the battery was bad and replaced it. Those Delco batteries were a common problem.

Today, for no reason, my battery ran down overnight and the car wouldn't start. Charged the battery and now I'm getting a check engine light and a service parking brake warning.

My OBD II scanner gives me three codes I can't interpret. P00FF, U3501, and U3505. The book with my scanner doesn't list those codes and a previous post listing all the C8 codes doesn't include those. Can anyone tell me what they mean?

On the battery issue I called the dealership to find out if it was still under warranty. Next month would be 36 months since they replaced it. In the past I have learned the policy is any replacement par is under only a 12 month warranty. But the service writer and I suspect batteries have a longer warranty but he's not sure. Does anyone know how long a dealer installed Delco battery is under warranty? The service writer thought a battery purchased over the counter might have a longer warranty than one dealer installed...which doesn't make much sense.

Seems like body control module codes most likely due to low voltage (communication issues and low voltage fault set). The car doesn't like low voltages. A new battery will most likely get things back to normal.

Over the parts counter batteries usually have a 1 year free replacement or a pro-rated warranty. Either way sounds like you have to spring for a new battery.

Are you using the factory battery maintainer or a CTEK?

I drive the car very often. When I travel and am going to be gone for over a week I plug a Battery Tender into the socket in the fronk.

Regarding the battery warranty, the way I read the warranty manual for 2023, which can be downloaded from the Chevrolet.com website, the battery is covered under the B2B warranty. I would expect that even if you have a replacement battery that was replaced under the warranty already, it would still be covered until the 3/36 expires.

Others have debated this but I will explain the basis for why I think its covered.
1) First, the B2B says everything is covered unless its excluded in the What is Not Covered section.
2) The 12 volt starting battery is not mentioned in that section, ever.
3) Someone suggested that the battery is a wear item only covered for 12 months, or whatever. No such statement appears in the warranty manual. And the terms "wear" and "wear item" does not even appear in the warranty manual. What is excluded is "maintenance items", and it lists Audio System Cleaning, Brake Pads/Linings, Clutch Linings, Coolants and Fluids, Filters, Limited Slip Rear Axle Service, Tire Rotation, Wheel Alignment/Balance, Wiper Inserts. But not the battery.
4) Could it be "prorated"? I don't think so. Tire are pro-rated, and its clear in the warranty manual and includes a table showing the pro-rated replacement. There is nothing about battery replacement being pro-rated.

So....based on all that I think its covered under the B2B warranty. Now, if it was replaced once already, is the replacement still covered for the full 3/36? Well, I think so. Suppose it was a engine replacement in the first year of owner ship. Is the replacement engine only covered for 1 year. I think not. Its still covered under the 5 year powertrain warranty. Why would a battery replaced under the warrant not also be covered for the full warranty period (3 years for the B2B)?

BTW I buy batteries from Costco. 3 year full replacement warranty.

I've head of one person who basically exchanges batteries with Costco before 36 months and thus always has a battery under full replacement warranty. Cheater! Probably the same kind of folks that used to return their flat screen TV every time a new model came out. Costco caught onto that and put a limit on the number of years in which you can return a TV.

My 2000 C5 engine started making a valve clatter noise at about 34,000 miles. There were engine oiling problems with early C5s. Bottom line is I got a new engine under warranty. Chevy said an engine is a replacement part and each part only comes with a one year warranty. Since my first engine failure was close to 3 years and 36,000 miles, I was concerned the new engine might not last long. So I argued up the Chevy chain of command and was issued a special 3 year warranty on the new engine in writing.

Thus my experience is a replacement battery may only have 1 year if Chevy uses it as a replacement part. But Delco batteries bought over the counter have longer warranties up to 48 months.

Well yeah. If the original battery was replaced in year three, but under the B2B warranty at no expense to the owner, its not clear that that the replacement battery would be covered beyond the B2B, if that was the question. But if the replacement battery Installed in year 3 was actually defective and failed shortly after the B2B expired, yes it should be replaced anyway at no expense to the owner - its just not clearly addressed by the wording in the warranty.

We're glad to hear your battery is still under warranty, Troy. Battery warranties vary on the type of battery. We'd suggest taking a look at this PDF document that fully explains the ACDelco batteries and their warranty parameters: https://www.gmparts.com/content/dam/...ranty-info.pdf. If you have further questions, feel free to email them to socialmedia@gm.com and use your Username/Forum title in the subject line.

In my (fortunately) limited experience, the pro-rated cost to you is based on an inflated list price, such that you'd end up paying more than for a new battery.

That is all very interesting and I appreciate your help.

According to what you say my replacement Delco battery would be under warranty until next month, given the service record showing it was replaced by the Chevy dealer in April 2022. However, I just examined the battery and the part of the sticker that apparently had the date code was removed by the dealership. That is certainly odd.

Next to that missing part of the battery label it says, "Warranty is void if the insert is removed." Not only is the piece removed but there is also a piece of masking tape on top of the battery that has the letters "SW" written on it in magic marker. I have no idea what to make of this. Does any of that make sense to you?

In any case, I hope that I have the dealership service record to rely on.

I have studied your battery warranty information and don't see my battery listed.

AC DELCO is printed on a gold label, so I suspect it is a gold battery. The label says deep cycle 770CCA 130 RC and H6/LN3. I gather the 130 RC is the battery number but that number is not on the list. Can you tell me more about this battery and it's warranty?

GM generally warrants replacement parts for the rest of the standard warranty or for 1 year, whichever is longer. I don't know if that applies to batteries or not. But if it does; With a build date in 2021 your B2B warranty has expired. And it's been more than 1 year since the battery replacement.

Costco seems to have changed that policy, maybe because of people like your friend. I just bought a new battery there and it has a 3 year pro-rated warranty.
